Announcing CFS National Awareness Month

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please come to Carson City, May 14th at 9:00 A.M. and support
funding for this Nevada Institute!
The Whittemore Institute for Neuro Immune
Disease, to be located at the University of Nevada, Reno,
is the first Institute in the nation to provide clinical care,
research and education for patients with CFS,
Fibromyalgia and other chronic neuroimmune disorders.
* These diseases affect millions of Americans and can
create life long disability and intense suffering.
* CFS strikes people of every age, ethnic origin and
socioeconomic level
* CFS has a severe economic impact: 9.1 billion dollars
in lost wages
* Most patients are suffering without adequate medical
care or proper diagnosis.
* Currently there are no FDA approved biomarkers for
these diseases but multiple neuroimmune abnormalities
have been documented by researchers around the
world.
* These include:
# inadequate immune responses
# abnormal neurological findings
* Effects of these disorders include chronic viral
reactivation, diffuse bodily pain, profound loss of
energy, orthostatic intolerance, cognitive difficulties
such as short term memory loss, and word finding
difficulties and gastrointestinal dysfunction.
* Full recovery from CFS is estimated at 5% to 10% of all
patients.
Physical symptoms can be severe and can have profound
effects on work, school, and family life. Some patients can not
perform tasks of basic living such as eating, showering or sitting
up in bed. They may require a wheelchair or be completely
homebound.
Support research funding through the Whittemore
Institute, to find the cause, effective treatments and a cure by
writing or calling your legislator today. You can make a
difference!
