Guest guest
We removed Dr. Mabray from our list because he failed to keep one of our members adequately medicated due to TSH worship. He also declined to prescribe Armour for a new patient who was not already on it. He is one of a group of Broda docs who changed their protocols in the wake of the board skewering of Fran Rose. If he is helping you, I am glad for you, but this doc does not have a good longterm track record with regard to thyroid, and we do not recommend him for anyone who is not easy to treat. After you have been his patient for six months or so, please fill out the database form for him and for any other docs you have seen for thyroid. s_dillman wrote: Happy New years to everyone! I don't post here much, but try to read thru the posts as much as possible. Wanted to quickly post a recommendation for Dr. Mabray. He looks to be a great resource for not only thyroid issues, but endo and any other auto immune diseases. He is located in , which was an hour and a half commute for me. A bit of a distance, but not quite the stretch that Dr. would have been in Lubbock. I was never able to coordinate a trip out there, so was looking for other alternatives. He is the FIRST doctor I have spoken with that is not just interested in treating symptoms, but getting to the root of the auto immune disease and creating a comprehensive treatment plan.In a nutshell what I found most impressive:>Unrushed office environment. Not just Dr. M, but his entire staff took time and I did not feel pressured to encapsulate my symptoms in a ten minute conversation. Similar to what I have heard about Dr. .>Comprehensive questions about current, past and family health issues. Dr. M uncovered some important things by asking me questions based on questions I had answered on the form I filled out prior to the exam. He also spent time explaining the various auto immune diseases, what is happening in the body, etc.>Comprehensive blood testing. It will vary from person to person, but mine was several pages long - 3 viles of blood. I did not feel he left one stone unturned.>Gentle demeanor and positive outlook. We all know what a relief it is to find medical personnel who don't think we are head cases and KNOW that indeed that our bodies are sick and not working properly. However, I think it is equally important to have a doctor to guide you to good health and not allow you to be a victim and remain ill.>Dr. M waits until he sees the blood tests and will develop a plan from there. Pretty critical if you are dealing with adrenal issues, hormone issues, etc. as you can't just throw a bunch of medicines at them as a fix.I did leave with a sample of progesterone drops which I had not tried before. They worked WONDERS on my fatigue and brain fog. Don't know if anyone else has tried them, but I'd be interested to know what you think.Dr. Mabray prescribes Armour as well as bioidentical hormones and also treats adrenal fatigue (he prefers saliva test for that diagnosis) as well as insulin resistance.Hope this helps for those of you looking for someone in the Houston area. The drive was well worth it. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Interesting view point about Dr. Mabray. The information I got from other patients of his is counter to what you are describing. All were prescribed armour. He said nothing negative to me about my being on 2 grains of armour. He asked if it was working for me and my history of dosages of armour in the past. The only thing I have heard, but not verified, is that he will not prescribe over 2 grains of armour. That may not work for some patients. I guess I will see in due time. I'm not here to defend Dr. Mabray before I have maintained a relationship with him, but I at this point I am extremely happy with him. My experience mirrors those other patients that recommended him to me, and I am delighted to have an option in my proximity. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Not being willing to Rx over a certain dose of Armour definitely excludes him from our list, as does not being willing to treat below a certain TSH. Those standards leaves a lot of folks undermedicated. A really good thyroid doc will Rx whatever the patient needs to feel well. . . . . And he did decline to Rx Armour for one of our members. . . . . Dillman wrote: Interesting view point about Dr. Mabray.
