Guest guest
No regrets on having it done! I would do it again in a second. I don't remember having a single sinus infections since. I turns out the doctor that did mine was old school and packed my sinuses solid with a material like very thin strips of gauze for about 4-5 days afterward. This was much worse then the actual surgery in my opinion. My surgery was done in 1996. It turns out that most doctors rarely pack the sinuses anymore. Most of them did not in 1996 but unfortunately mine did. I did not think the post-op pain was much worse then having a sinus infection which I had literally all the time. The pain that I had from the constant sinus infections was comparable to migraines. I was self-employed so no sick time either. I did have problems a few months after the surgery. My ENT did not want me to take any antihistamines or decongestants or the steroid sprays. Well obviously the surgery did not fix my allergies, so I still had the full uncomfortable feeling from my allergies. I went and saw another ENT who told me to go ahead and resume the antihistamines. He is also was the one that got me started on the sinus rinses which helped immensely. I am considering it. I know I am not optimized with my thyroid, have been working on it for over a year. My allergies are terrible. I am on shots but cannot stay well enough to get them as often as I should. So, I am seeing a surgeon next week to discuss sinus surgery. Thanks, RE: Dr. Kittley It sounds like you are not optimized. Maybe you need more of what you are taking. Some including Jan have had success with taking a combination. For your sinuses, have you tried doing a sinus rinse? When mine really flare up this helps a lot. Before being diagnosed with hypothyroidism I had TERRIBLE sinus difficulty. I could not go longer then a few weeks without being infected. I finally ended up having sinus surgery...essentially a roto-rooter of the sinuses. As someone else posted, I have heard that allergies improve when thyroid replacement is optimized. I'm still pretty new to treatment and not optimized to see if my allergies improve. I was due for a dosage increase and my allergies have been worse but it could because of the weather also. Right now I take a 12 hour over the counter antihistamine twice a day. Claritin does not work very well for me. My ENT doctor said that it does not work well for MANY patients. I hope you feel better soon! But that seems to be less often than it used to. Not that I have ever gone a long period of just feeling energetic. It is just within the past 6-7 months it has gotten much worse. I have somewhat hesitantly been looking for work. I could have gotten two different jobs within the past month but turned them both down due to fear of feeling horrible. Hindsight, I was correct. Just like today. Once again, I wake up so nauseated from sinus drainage, my eyes and face swollen and just feel plain icky. I have not had much energy to do anything. When I do get those bursts of energy I try and get as much done. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bed ridden, I just don't feel good. If push came to shove, I could and would work feeling like this. It is just that I want to feel good in order to be a good worker and actually enjoy what I am doing. I have never been a ball of energy, even from the time I was in school. I have been constipated my whole life and take pills for that. I just want my energy level to stabilize. I think a lot of us on here can relate to this. I will call Dr. Hartig and see if I can get in to see her soon. Delanadancer <carole_henningsbcglobal (DOT) net> wrote: Do you feel you are optimized and stable at your current dose? Do you feel you would do better with more frequent blood work? I rarely go a year without a crash, so I will call up and get an appointment. I have enough prescription refills to go 9 months if I wanted. But I am most comfortable with twice a year. Just my opinion.DelanaK65 wrote:> Also, I would like to > get imput from others about how often they have blood work done. I just find it odd that my doc at MD only wants to see me once a year. Is this the norm? Thanks for the info. Delana>>>
