Guest guest
Dear Groups: I am sending a post to the groups from Koenig, who is the leader of a group of Nons from several lists (both WTO and others) who are working together to put together real life support groups for Non-BPs The idea is that if online support groups are helpful, real life support groups could be even more helpful in bringing nons out of isolation, sharing local resources, and providing support. and his group have worked very hard for several weeks to put this together. and his group are also looking into other Non activism and have a listserv for people who are interested in avocating for nons on a variety of levels. If you are interested in finding out more about the group, I would encourage you to contact at jkoenig34@.... would like you to please feel free to post this message (with the web site or list owner's permission, of course) wherever nons congregate online as this group is independent and for everyone. Randi ____________________________________________________________ Date: Sept. 4, 2003 From: Koenig, Director of PDFF To: All Nons Online Dear WTO list members, I am excited to introduce Personality Disorder Family Fellowship (PDFF) to the world of non-BPs. PDFF was developed by myself and some other nons with the idea that non-BPs have an amazing healing and grounding affect on one another when they come together and support each other. Non-BP support lists like WTOs have shown us what online support can do. Imagine what actual real life support can do! That is our mission: to facilitate real life support groups to provide local support like the lists have done. By bringing together non-BPs in your local community, we believe that the effects of this real life local contact is very beneficial to the non-BP who wants to find answers and start the healing process. Although this may sound fairly simple, we have found many that have tried this and have become discouraged and given up. We at PDFF are working to create a structured format that groups can follow to achieve stability, this seems to be essential. This is going to take a little bit of time, but we are working on it. PDFF has 6 online lists that are meant to facilitate communication so the members eventually meet in real life. These lists function just like other lists that you may subscribe to, but they are restricted to only people that live in certain areas. They are local lists. Eventually we will develop a network of local support that will include most everyone, but we are small right now and are very low on time and money. Weapologize for this and we will keep you up to date on new areas that we go into. Why join a local list? 1) You get connected with people in your area that understand your situation. You can meet as a group for a hike, bike ride, picnic, or just a cup of coffee or tea. I suspect that these local list will be especially helpful to those who intend to stick by their BP loved ones (Stayers) and will need a shoulder to cry on from time to time. PDFF is hopeful that the lists will evolve into support groups as we find ways to make them more stable, which will help non-BP is to explore their deeper non-BP issues and continue the process of recovery and healing. We are also hopeful that these lists will help non-BPs break their chains of isolation that helplessly imprisons so many of us. For some, these lists will be one more baby step out of unbearable isolation. 2) These locally focused lists could also be rich sources of local resources to the non-BP. Bad therapists can be avoided and good ones can be referred by people who have experienced them first hand. Other resources like community programs and savvy lawyers could also be very useful to new members of the non-BP world. No longer does every non-BP have to reinvent the wheel, these valuable resources can now be handed to them for immediate relief. Here are the areas we are presently working with. If you live in or near one of these areas, you are invited to subscribe to that area's list by sending a blank e-mail to be e-mail address under that area or you can subscribe by visiting the Web site.
