Hi all-

Someone had posted a good link that explained lab

results and I've lost it...

Can you repost it? I want to understand

antihyaluronidase (a strep lab) and am not having

great luck finding much info on what the results mean.

Thanks!

,

Is this the site you wanted? Sorry it took so long to get back to you... it

took a little digging to find it!

It's from January of 2004, so I'm not sure if this is the one you wanted.

Anyway, here's my old post...

For those of you who struggle to understand your children's lab results like

I do, I just wanted to share some links that I have found extremely

helpful... they are from the The American Society for Clinical Laboratory

Science (ASCLS) website.

for " Chemistry Tests " go to...

http://ascls.org/labtesting/labchem.asp

There you will find an overview of the following tests-

Acid Phosphatase (AcP), SGPT, Albumin, Alkaline Phosphatase (AlkP), SGOT,

Total Bilirubin, BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen), Calcium, Cholesterol,

Creatinine, Electrolytes, g(gamma) glutamyl transferase, Globulins - Protein

Electrophoresis (SPE), gamma globulins, Glucose, Heavy Density Lipoprotein

(HdL), Immunoglobulins, Iron (Fe), Lactate Dehydrogenase (LD , Lipid

Profile, Phosphorous (P), Total Protein, Triglycerides, Thyroid Profile,

Uric Acid, and maybe a few more.

for " Hematology Tests " go to...

http://ascls.org/labtesting/labcbc.asp

This page explains the following (there are also photos of some of the

different types of cells)....

CBC, Hemoglobin (Hb), Hematocrit (Hct), RBC indices (Mean Cell Volume/MCV,

Mean Cell Hemoglobin/ MCH, Mean Cell Hemoglobin Concentration/MCHC),

Relative or Red cell Distributive Width (RDW), White Blood Cell Count (WBC),

Differential, Platelets (PLT), Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), Granulocytes,

neutrophils, polymorphonuclear leukocytes, eosinophils, basophils,

Monocytes, lymphocytes, Reticulocyte count (Retic count), Sedimentation Rate

(ESR, Sed rate)

I hope that some of you find these sites helpful. I find that when I

understand the labs, I am better prepared to ask questions that pertain to

my child's care.

Caroline
