Hi ,

Thanks for your response. It helps. :)

I guess I was just wondering what made the MOST difference in your

energy levels out of all the things you're taking/doing. It seems it

is the combo that is really what is working for you? Or the energy

shots?

C,

You're welcome. With all the wonderful information I've gleaned from all

our members, I'm so happy I can finally contribute something. Such as it is.

I would love to be able to give you an easy answer -- THIS is what made the

difference. That's the kind of information I've been looking for in all my

research. Unfortunately I can't.

As with all things related to this condition, from everything I've been able

to read, it's really overdetermined -- meaning that there are so many

factors that contribute to the overall outcome. I tend to agree most with

Teitelbaum's assessment in From Fatigued to Fantastic. I don't think anyone

really knows all the answers for sure, but my opinion is that I had to start

with the really big problems, work to getting those set in a better mode,

then the medium problems, then the smaller ones. No matter how much I did

for the smaller problems, if the big problems hadn't been worked on, my body

couldn't even start to address the little stuff. But they're all

interconnected, so working on one affected all the others -- it's constantly

in a state of flux.

For me, the big stuff seemed to be getting rid of the candida

gastro-intestinal invasion; cortisol/fludrocortisone for adrenal fatigue;

Ambien CR, sleep supplements, pain meds, and a C-PAP for better sleep;

Wellbutrin for secondary mood problems (I don't handle this much frustration

well); and T3 for the thyroid problems. With these being addressed, my body

probably had more to work with to fight the EBV; use the bio-identical

hormones; use the wide variety of supplements I was taking; and use the

energy shots (medium level stuff). Then I could try a few activities, and

look at other (comparatively) minor problems like increasing insulin

sensitivity, monitoring heart palpitations, and refining my diet.

I'm still learning all this as I go along. If I look at it week to week, I

have a kind of 2 steps forward, one step back kind of progress, but if I

look at it over the last six months, my bad days now are better than my good

days six months ago. I'll define that as forward progress. I've learned

from reading other people's posts that I can probably expect a few downturns

and that I have to pace myself. I've finally gotten to the point where I

have accepted that I have to sit down as soon as I even start to feel the

slightest bit tired or I'll regret it the next day. I think that is a

contributing factor to recovery as well.

I'm nowhere near my normal pace of functioning yet. I also know that I can

only schedule one or two things a day -- so many people on here have

stressed pacing, I'm really trying to listen to the voices of experience. So

not pushing myself is also a large contributing factor. Oh, and managing

pain -- if I hurt, I feel more tired -- mentally and physically -- than if

my pain is under control. The trick (that I'm still working on) is keeping

the pain down without taking so much that I get groggy.

Short answer: I think that laying the groundwork over the past year (since

9/06) enabled the energy shots to kick in over the past 3-4 months or so.
