Hi Greg

Congratulations on the great weight loss. You are really going well.

Maybe you can let some of our newbys in on your secret. Good luck with

the exercise class, I know what you mean about being sore. At the moment

I am in the hydrotherapy pool at Woy Woy Hospital and I am using muscles

that I forgot that I owned. LOL

Now as for the diving I am sorry there. I wouldn't have a clue. As Mel

has said I think a call to your doctor will let you know. Then again

everyone is different. I know some people who get a really bad

restriction when they fly and then there are others who don't.

Good luck with the redundancy. Are you going to look for another job

quickly or are you going to chill out for a couple of months?

Good Morning,

Im not feeling to good this morning, walking is tricky, did my 2nd excersise

class last night, I think 2 in 2 days was a mistake , oh well no pain no gain as

they say.

As to my secret for success, who knows ???. bear in mind I think blokes lose

weight easier than girls & also my starting weight was 170kg & BMI was 49 so I

had a lot to lose, I expect it to be harder from now on now that Ive lost a heap

& my BMI is now 36 & I may go back for a 2nd fill after my trip to Qld , I'd

like to lose another 15 - 20kg if I can. My BP is down to 115/85 (probably be

able to stop tablets in the next month or 2) & my insulin resistance has

dissapeared.

I walk a lot , 40 - 50 mins 3- 5 times a week, some days I park the car 15 mins

walk from work. I eat very few carbs, mainly just protein & veges , I really

only eat pasta or rice if Im out for dinner.I rarely eat bread, since my op in

october Ive had a little bit of naan bread on 3 occasions & half a piece of

toast once. Im pretty motivated too I guess as I paid $16,000 for the op, dont

want to waste the $$.

I certainly feel that for whatever reason this whole experience has been easier

for me so far than I expected from my research & feel very lucky to not have had

as hard a time as many Ive read about on the net.

Greg You are doing well, and you are lucky - however I do sometimes think that luck is our own creation, so continue with the good luck!Its great hearing other people success and also getting some hints and tips along the way. So anyone else want to contribute?Thanks

Hi Greg,

I learnt to scuba dive *after* getting my band. I've done about 15 dives and I

haven't had a problem. I have heard some people can feel more restriction when

under pressure - but my doc said that as you're not trying to eat while

underwater - it's not an issue. If you were to experience this, you should find

that your band will return to normal when you surface and come back to your

usual air pressure.

When I was learning to dive I was very nervous about whether I'd be able to get

rid of excess saliva/slime while diving (as I can have a problem with this). My

instructor's best advice was " anything you can do on land you can do through a

regulator " ! *chuckles* Gross, but it gave me a lot of confidence.

Just go for it - even if you do experience greater restriction, it should ease

when you return to the surface. Maybe limit the depth of your first couple of

dives until you get a feel for it. If you were to experience tightness to the

point of not being able to swallow - then reduce your depth or terminate the

dive. If you have any persistent problem after the dive - I'd get to the doc

ASAP.

I should point out - I'm only an open water diver and haven't gone below 18m.

But again, I'd just test out your depths as you go, if you experience problems,

come back up.

I just got back from NZ and diving at the Poor Knights Island - visibility was

30m + !!! It was just awesome - loved it!

Hope you have some great dives! I am a bit jealous!
