Guest guest
Well that is great news about your weight loss! I so want to get back into at least a 16 so that I can shop at my favorite stores. I have a continuing education conference in April in Las Vegas. I'll be seeing colleagues that I have not seen since I piled on an extra 50-60 pounds in the year to finally being diagnosed and treated for hypothyroidism. I'm really dreading it. I guess people talk anyway so I'll give them something to talk about. Maybe next conference it will be " wow, doesn't Kim look great! " . I was hoping that I would lose between January and April. Here it is almost March and I have only lost a few pounds (at least I'm not gaining). I am under so much extra stress right now with my daughter still trying to recover from her riding accident. Finances are tighter then ever with all of the medical bills. Last time we were at the orthopedic surgeon's office, he said she was suffering from post traumatic shock. I was thinking,,,yeah me too. I'm thinking part of her problem is also her thyroid. She started Armour the 1st of January. Dr R. had said to call him if she did not improve in a month on 60mg knowing it might not be a good starting dose. He had said it is sometimes difficult to figure out where to start. Well she did not improve in a month but she also was not compliant with taking her thyroid. I finally got her to take it consistently in February. I think she probably improved some but still definitely not right. It is all hard to sort out. What is thyroid issues, what is post traumatic shock, what is from taking hydrocodone which she still needs for physical therapy? I called into Dr R's office late yesterday to see what he thinks. Waiting to hear back. Oh, well! I'm really trying to keep focus on the fact that she will eventually have a full recovery. Thanks for letting me vent! Kim Re: Dr. Jan said: The main problem will be for those without a car. Some of the hotels will give rides to doctors. The Clarion was very good about that. But ask. Policies change. Then there is the problem of restaurants. . . . -------------------- Currently, I've found the La Quinta (Medical Center) near his present office to be a " not too bad " choice (previous experience: The Lubbock Inn). They have a medical rate. My last room (2 double beds, non smoking, free continental breakfast (but it is NOT low-carb friendly, unless you're not counting fruit)) ran around $56-58. They have a free shuttle to and from the airport and, the last guy who drove me said that they would take me to Dr. R's new location (free shuttle to medical facilities). I have been walking to my appointments as of late. However, walking from there to 50th Street is a bit (hahahaha) beyond my ability. ;-) Do call and make sure of this before you book. I've had a couple different drivers and who knows if that is truly a hotel policy. I would think, though, that them being so close to Covenant, they would transport patients to their various appointments. If you decide to take a bus, do so before 6 pm :p . I nearly got stranded at the mall...... The nearby restaurants are El Chico (walking distance), Durango's (I walked to it, but it just depends on how you feel), Subway, Bless Your Heart (a bit of a stretch to walk there), Jazz (same deal), and the Thai Pepper (or something like that..it's in the same shopping strip the previous 2 are). There's also a CVS right there if you need (of course, if you are already familiar with Dr. R's current office, then you know this). On a personal note, I'm doing SO much better now!!!!! I weighed myself the other day and am at 168!! I started out on my newfound journey on Armour and Cortisol at 183, I think! This was last October. My recent trip to Dr. R found him pleasantly surprised at my improvement " across the board. " Hallelujah! I actually had to get some clothes taken in the other day (was a size 18 after being around an 11/12 for my 20's). I'm fitting into 14s now. I just need to make myself make good choices about food intake and also squeeze in some physical activity. It's just too tempting to veg out in front of the tv after a day at work. I will do it by baby steps, though. I've been fighting a virus lately, so I'll be sure to keep an eye on that. I don't know if I posted my current labs..I don't even remember updating y'all. I'll post that in a bit. I'm at work. Speaking of, I have some coworkers whom I'm trying to herd over here to check us out. One is recently pregnant (fertility meds b/c of PCOS and other things), diabetic and recently told she is hypo. She's on Synthroid and has an appt with an endo (oh-no) soon. Another has had her thyroid irradiated due to Grave's. Another has a mom who is hypo and elderly (also on Synthroid but has not really improved..). I'm hoping they'll pop in and say hi soon. If not, I may be posting on their behalf. I'm the proverbial broken record around here. I really wish that more people would realize JUST HOW MUCH our thyroids affect our lives!!! Especially with the stuff going on in the media today... Take care, AmyinPlano
