Guest guest
Dr. is located in Round Rock (just north of Austin). As anyone who lives in the Austin area knows, finding a good doctor who prescribes Armour is difficult! She is also covered under my insurance (which is a plus!). I personally was very happy with how things went. She is a D.O. and is focused on getting to the root of the problem rather than treating just the symptom(s). She also said that she is different than most doctors because of her approach (no kidding!). She took her time and was very understanding. She made it clear that I was in charge of my health and that she would do what she could to help me. She sent me home with an adrenal test (which I don't have to pay for...insurance covers). The other doctor I went to wanted me to pay $250 to have one done!!! Since I am borderline hypothyroid (tsh @2.0), she highly suspects the adrenals (I also have two children-hormones!). She had no problems at all with Armour and even said that since I had not been on it for a long time (and it is the adrenals causing my thyroid problems), I may even be able to wean myself off the Armour when everything starts working right! I am to go back in a month to see how my levels are on the Armour and adjust if needed. I should also know more about my adrenal panel as well. I have seen some really bad doctors so am really happy to find someone nice AND shares the same views! She takes a while to get in to see since she just had a baby six weeks ago and only works on Tuesdays. I think I had to wait 1 1/2 months for mine. Anyway, I hope that this information helps those looking for a doctor in the Austin area! > > > Hi Everyone! My husband and I both have an > > appointment with Dr. > > this afternoon. Guest guest
Helen,He told me that it is over by Caprock Drug. I haven't been able to find any hotels very close to there (using Yahoo maps). There are a couple a mile or two away. I'm sure that we'll be able to find something close enough. Re: Dr. Did they tell you he is moving? This is the first I have heard of it. The best thing to do is call his office. Normally, when a doc moves, all patients get a letter ahead of time.lulu4six wrote: I have an appointment with Dr. on Monday, does anyone know if he has moved into his new office? Guest guest
Trying again...got a network error the last time I tried to post... Jan said: The main problem will be for those without a car. Some of the hotels will give rides to doctors. The Clarion was very good about that. But ask. Policies change. Then there is the problem of restaurants. . . . -------------------- Currently, I've found the La Quinta (Medical Center) near his present office to be a " not too bad " choice (previous experience: The Lubbock Inn). They have a medical rate. My last room (2 double beds, non smoking, free continental breakfast (but it is NOT low-carb friendly, unless you're not counting fruit)) ran around $56-58. They have a free shuttle to and from the airport and, the last guy who drove me said that they would take me to Dr. R's new location (free shuttle to medical facilities). I have been walking to my appointments as of late. However, walking from there to 50th Street is a bit (hahahaha) beyond my ability. ;-) Do call and make sure of this before you book. I've had a couple different drivers and who knows if that is truly a hotel policy. I would think, though, that them being so close to Covenant, they would transport patients to their various appointments. If you decide to take a bus, do so before 6 pm :p . I nearly got stranded at the mall...... The nearby restaurants are El Chico (walking distance), Durango's (I walked to it, but it just depends on how you feel), Subway, Bless Your Heart (a bit of a stretch to walk there), Jazz (same deal), and the Thai Pepper (or something like that..it's in the same shopping strip the previous 2 are). There's also a CVS right there if you need (of course, if you are already familiar with Dr. R's current office, then you know this). On a personal note, I'm doing SO much better now!!!!! I weighed myself the other day and am at 168!! I started out on my newfound journey on Armour and Cortisol at 183, I think! This was last October. My recent trip to Dr. R found him pleasantly surprised at my improvement " across the board. " Hallelujah! I actually had to get some clothes taken in the other day (was a size 18 after being around an 11/12 for my 20's). I'm fitting into 14s now. I just need to make myself make good choices about food intake and also squeeze in some physical activity. It's just too tempting to veg out in front of the tv after a day at work. I will do it by baby steps, though. I've been fighting a virus lately, so I'll be sure to keep an eye on that. I don't know if I posted my current labs..I don't even remember updating y'all. I'll post that in a bit. I'm at work. Speaking of, I have some coworkers whom I'm trying to herd over here to check us out. One is recently pregnant (fertility meds b/c of PCOS and other things), diabetic and recently told she is hypo. She's on Synthroid and has an appt with an endo (oh-no) soon. Another has had her thyroid irradiated due to Grave's. Another has a mom who is hypo and elderly (also on Synthroid but has not really improved..). I'm hoping they'll pop in and say hi soon. If not, I may be posting on their behalf. I'm the proverbial broken record around here. I really wish that more people would realize JUST HOW MUCH our thyroids affect our lives!!! Especially with the stuff going on in the media today... Take care, AmyinPlano
Guest guest
Yes, it looks like there is nothing as close as we are used to...walking distance. There appears to be plenty of food available, but I couldn't identify anything that would be considered in the 'healthy' category. I have looked at Yahoo Maps and Google Maps. Only one I saw listing complementary transportation was Embassy Suites. There may be more, but they're not telling. We'll be fine, it will all work out. Guest guest
Close to the Clarion, there is a pancake house and Denny's. Do not eat at the dining room in the Clarion. I repeat. Do not eat at the Clarion. . . . .warning. . . . .do not. . . . I really like Bless Your Heart and will make a point of having a meal there. But I will be driving from now on. If you have any links to hotels or restaurants, post them and I will put them in "Links" on our site. We can do the same for folks who go to ville, if there is any interest. carol77096 wrote: Yes, it looks like there is nothing as close as we are used to...walking distance. Guest guest
Driving from Houston is not an option for me. It appears that most of the hotels I saw were around a mile or a mile and a half away. Car rental during the week is kind of expensive, I don't know for sure since I have not handled any of the travel issues so far, but I think it was around $80, $90. The hotel was only $50, $60, so in comparison seems like a lot. The last time we went we did up and back in a day. It did not go smoothly and I was in bed for three days after. I don't think I told the story as it was sooo stressful, I was trying to block it out. The flight from Houston to Dallas was fine. We're supposed to only 'stop' in Dallas, not change planes or anything. Well, we got to Dallas and there were only a few people going on to Lubbock. As soon as the other passengers got off we were told the plane had 'mechanical issues' and we were directed to another gate, another flight. Well, fine, but we get to the other gate only to find that the other flight doesn't leave Dallas until 3:30 and my appointment was 4:00. I think it was about noon, maybe 1:00 at this point. So DH called Doc's office, they said fine, see ya when ya get here. Of course, the airline was 'consolidating' flights. DH kept an eye on our Houston, Dallas plane (made note of the tail number) and sure enough it was moved to another gate and was boarding another flight. I don't remember the exact time we arrived in Lubbock. We took a cab from the airport and I think it was 5:00 when we went in the exam room. Everybody in the office seemed 'no big deal' with it, but it was a big deal to me. I loathe being late. So we were rushed and people were inconvenienced because of us. Then we had to be concerned about our return flight, last flight out, 6:40. DH had made an agreement with the cabbie to come to Doc's office at 6:00 and wait for us. That went fine, got to the airport, through security and walked on the plane. That flight went fine, I think, as by this time I was fallng, literally, asleep and I couldn't tell you one thing about that flight. We got home around 8:00 or 9:00 and it was night night for me - for three days. If I had not had someone with me to manage the travel I could not have made it. We have made three trips to Lubbock. The first was deceptively trouble free. The other two we had 'inconveniences'. So, we will work on finding acceptable transportation and lodging for the new office. Guest guest
Wow! Congratulations!!! I, too, have been at size 18, and can barely remember my size 10 days of 20+ years ago before this all started. You give me renewed hope! Guest guest
Carol, I just wanted to say that the last time I was in Lubbock, I took the bus around town. It wasn't familiar with their bus system before I got there, and the kind folks at the Lubbock Inn looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about it. But it worked for me. Here's a link: http://www.citibus.com/whoweare.html I hope you find something that works for you. kidbobo > > > Helen, > > > He told me that it is over by Caprock Drug. Guest guest
Thanks, . Even with the trouble I am so glad to be in the care of Doc R. That trip was Nov. 7, at that time I was up to 'just miserable' from 'nearly dead'. 'Better' is such a relative term. Yes, I'm better, but better than what? See, I've been on the verge of a vent or a rant for a few days. It's hard to be so sick for so long. People start to give up on you. They don't understand. It's not even that they don't understand. It's that they can't understand. Yes, I'm better. But I can't see 'well' yet. It's still out of my view, way out there somewhere. I still have no energy, but what's almost worse is that I have no movitation. I don't feel like doing anything, or going anywhere or seeing anyone. I guess apathy is the best word for it and it's awful. It's almost worse than the physical symptoms. I'm just so frustrated with being sick for so long. There. I hope that's the end of the rant. If there are some good docs here I wish they'd put out a flag or a beacon, we just have no way to find them. I so never want to hear again, "You're concentrating too much on your thyroid." Or any variation on that sentence, as we've all heard. From a doc that knows way less than I do now about thyroid. Anyway, I wish you good luck. Carol >> Wow Carol what a plight! Guest guest
Thanks a lot. I will keep that in mind. Taxi service is spotty at best. Of course, paying them to wait for you is one way to get 'em there. Carol > > > > Helen,> > > > He told me that it is over by Caprock Drug. Guest guest
He also tests antibodies, lipids, CBC, and a complete metabolic panel. After he talks to you, he will decide if any other tests need to be run. He may also run magnesium, calcium, B6, B12, folic acid. He does not use saliva tests, only blood. He is willing to diagnose and treat other diseases. I make a point of discussing all of my health problems with him just because he knows so much. He does send out a questionaire ahead of time. The physical exam is minimal, usually just BP, pulse, temperature, reflexes. He will do more, if you request it. If you are local to Lubbock, he will do pretty much everything you need from a family practice doc. He expects long distance patients such as myself to have a local doc, too. His legal name is Eldon s . I do not get anything on Google with that name. He taught and worked in research in steroid hormones at UT Southwestern Medical School. He currently teaches community and family medicine at Texas Tech. skeeterjjj wrote: Hello. I have a few questions. What does Dr. R test for besides adrenals, thyroid, iron, sex hormones, DHEA? If it is not thyroid, does he diagnose anything else or just thyroid? Also, does he do a physical exam or questionaire? Also, when you search his name, a dr with that name comes up with gulf war illness research--is that him or a different one? Thanks, Building a website is a piece of cake. Yahoo!
