Guest guest
T3 Uptake is an obsolete test which does not measure T3. It measures thyroid binding proteins and is used together with the semi-useful Total T4 to calculate the Free Thyroxine Index, also called T7, another obsolete test which yields an estimate of free T4 levels. There is no reason to run any of these tests, since Free T4 (direct) is available. You have no test here which measures T3 levels. Your Free T4 is extremely low, below the bottom of its range. Combined with your TSH at 38.7, I can state categorically that you are hypothyroid. You say you are not on thyroid meds. You need to be treated. Most of us need to have our Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper half of their ranges to feel well and be free of hypothyroid symptoms. What does your doc say about these numbers? How is your cholesterol? Blood pressure? testifyhisgrace wrote: Hi, I hope this finds everyone doing well.. ... my name is Connie. Given that my TSH is high? Reason I'm asking.. is my T3 is now inrange.. it's just my Free T4 that is a little low considering a range a range of (0.73 - 1.95). Thanks for your thoughts.. Other then that.. I'm feeling pretty good.. pretty good energy.. I can think of one area that's been a little strange and that's maybe due to an allergic reaction .. not sure yet.. still checking into that.. because the symptoms are that .. I've been a little light headed and experiencing some vertigo and dizziness this past week - maybe it's just all the rain and such in Tejas!?!?!I'd appreciate your thoughts .. my goal has been to go as natural as possible. I'm not taking any perscription meds at this time. Just vitamins.. and other natural supplements.Again thank you for your insight...Connie Be a PS3 game guru.Get your game face on with the latest PS3 news and previews at Yahoo! Games. Guest guest
Hi Jan, Cholesterol is 270 Triglycerides is 185 HDL is in range at 56 Calculated LDL CHOL is 177 Risk Ratio LDL/HDL is in range at 3.16 My blood pressure has been flucuating any where from 107 63 - 138 85. Depending on activity level. My Doc is wanting to put me on Levothyroxine .125mg. When I was taking Armor up until a few months ago I was taking 2 grams. I was told that I was to decrease that amount to 1.5 grams and that I was getting too much thyroid meds. I have some unusual side effects being on thyroid meds, which include severe muscle cramping. Especially in my neck but not just isolated to my neck. Sometimes I get these cramps in my feet, calves and hands. I further began experiencing increased arthric symptoms to the point I couldn't walk or stand for more then 5 minutes. That's when I decided to get off the meds I was taking and start over with vitamins and other natural supplements and see if I could determine what I was doing wrong. Thanks for your thoughts and insight. Connie ps I have not started the generic synthroid. > Hi, > > I hope this finds everyone doing well.. ... my name is Connie. > > I recently went in for some labs and found that my; > > T3 Uptake was 22.1 > > Free T4 (Thyroxine) was 0.60 > > TSH 38.7 > > I'm wondering if this is indicitive of my thyroid trying to > function, but not up to par yet? Guest guest
That high cholesterol is one of the effects of hypothyroidism. The high triglycerides is another. Did you have the cramping and arthritis on 120 mg of Armour? Did it get better or worse when you reduced your dose? It is possible that you were undermedicated, even on the higher dose. I think I remember that you are a large woman. 120 mg may not have been a large enough dose. Do try the levothyroxine and see if it helps. Try to stay on a stable dose for eight weeks and then ask your doc to run Free T3 (direct) and Free T4 (direct). Did he run those tests when you were on Armour? If he did, that would give us some clue as to what was going on. Make sure you wait until after the test to take your thyroid meds. Was this the doctor on Ridge Road in Rockwall? Vertigo and dizziness can be hypothyroid symptoms. testifyhisgrace wrote: Hi Jan,Cholesterol is 270Triglycerides is 185HDL is in range at 56Calculated LDL CHOL is 177Risk Ratio LDL/HDL is in range at 3.16My blood pressure has been flucuating any where from 107 63 - 138 85. Guest guest
Yes, I did have cramping and arthritis on 120 mg of Armour. Cramps seemed to stay about the same when I first reduced my dose. Now however cramps are happening more frequently. The Arthritis seems to be better since I decreased dosage to nothing however at the same time I decreased the Armour, I've began my water excercises and I think that is a very helpful contributing factor (as far as strengthening and stamina). After Doc McKenney on Ridge Road ran labs he wanted to decrease my Armour from 2 grams to 1.5. (I'll find those results and post them when I remember what I did with them). After feeling a bit frustrated with that decision.. that's when I decided to get off the thyroid meds all together. After experiencing pretty severe dizziness, room spinning/tilted and vertigo.. I went to our family physician, Dr Lensch for a second opinion. He's the one that ran these most recent labs and suggested the .125 levothyroxine. The dizziness and vertigo lasted three days then I had four days without much other then a little light headedness. Now today I was back to having dizziness and the room spinning some. Thank you for your insight. I value your opinion and I'll do as you suggested and see if I don't see some better results. > > Hi, > > > > I hope this finds everyone doing well.. ... my name is Connie. > > > > I recently went in for some labs and found that my; > > > > T3 Uptake was 22.1 > > > > Free T4 (Thyroxine) was 0.60 > > > > TSH 38.7 > > > > I'm wondering if this is indicitive of my thyroid trying to > > function, but not up to par yet? Guest guest
You may wish to have your cortisol levels checked. An 8 am cortisol below about 15 would suggest that you should be treated. Likewise, sex hormones can impact your ability to tolerate a suitable dose of thyroid meds. testifyhisgrace wrote: Yes, I did have cramping and arthritis on 120 mg of Armour. Guest guest
I'm unfamiliar.. can you tell me what cortisol levels and sex hormones are and how they play a role? thanks and are they two seperate things? > > > Hi, > > > > > > I hope this finds everyone doing well.. ... my name is Connie. > > > > > > I recently went in for some labs and found that my; > > > > > > T3 Uptake was 22.1 > > > > > > Free T4 (Thyroxine) was 0.60 > > > > > > TSH 38.7 > > > > > > I'm wondering if this is indicitive of my thyroid trying to > > > function, but not up to par yet? Guest guest
Cortisol and DHEA are adrenal hormones. The sex hormones are estrogens, progesterone, and testosterone. I don't know the exact mechanisms, but they all work together with thyroid hormones. Hypothyroid folks are often low or otherwise out of balance on their sex and adrenal hormones. Thyroid hormone intolerance can often be addressed by balancing all of the other hormones. Another possible cause for thyroid hormone intolerance is low ferritin. Ferritin is storage iron. Anemia will show up on ferritin tests a long time before it can be detected with other iron tests. testifyhisgrace wrote: I'm unfamiliar.. can you tell me what cortisol levels and sex hormones are and how they play a role? thanks and are they two seperate things?> > > Hi, > > > > > > I hope this finds everyone doing well.. ... my name is Connie. > > > > > > I recently went in for some labs and found that my;> > > > > > T3 Uptake was 22.1> > > > > > Free T4 (Thyroxine) was 0.60> > > > > > TSH 38.7> > > > > > I'm wondering if this is indicitive of my thyroid trying to> > > function, but not up to par yet? Guest guest
You unequivocably, handsdown, hypothyroid, from whatever thyroid disease that caused it. Going " natural " , with thyroid hormone just doesn't get it, you need thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Do you have Hashimoto's antibodies or other antibodies??? That high TSH means your pituitary is asking, no, begging desperately for thyroid hormone that isn't there at all. Going " natural " is kind of like trying to raise the dead after they've been in rigor mortis for several hours. Sorry, but that's the only way to make a high impact here. The only test you have there that tells anything at all is that low low low T4. The other tests were obsolete a long time ago. When are these doctors going to " get it " ? We call thyroid hormone a " med " because it's prescribed, but it's not in the usual sense of the word because a hormone is a vital part of the human body to literally stay alive, we can't function without it. You say you're feeling well, then say you are having light headedness and vertigo, dizziness. That's not feeling well at all. Sometimes we get so used to feeling these things that we feel like it's normal, but it's not. Meanwhile, thyroid disease continues to gradually damage all our body parts to the point that we're being prescribed meds for everything that it IS doing to us. Needing some insight..
