Guest guest
Hi, Sheryl, Fatigue, anxiety and sleep problems are all Hypo symptoms, it's not your imagination. It might be best to work with your GP 'till you feel better. Endos are not generally the best doctors for thyroid. Carol >> Hello All,> I am Sheryl and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto in Dec 06. Guest guest
I, too, am allergic to the acacia in Synthroid, but it is also in many other things, including some other T4 synthetics. Yes, it is not in Levoxyl. Your history is a little similar to mine in that I also initially presented with hyper Hashi's all those yrs ago, running like a rat in a cage or a hamster on a wheel. This is probably what's going on, the up down up down thing of a thyroid that is eventually going to burn out. You need the FREE values of the thyroid hormones, as the TSH (this so called gold standard is laughable) is the pituitary hormone, not the thyroid hormones. It is good for diagnosis, sometimes, but is useless after starting thyroid meds. The object (most of the time) is to stop the Hashi's thyroid itself from working, as it will get all kinds of unrecoverable damage to it, if it works on it's own hormone. The idea is to suppress the TSH, bypass the thyroid itself, and replace with outside thyroid hormone. This is probably where your fatigue is coming from, as the thyroid will make hormone, the antibodies will attack it when it does this, then the thyroid stops production due to the damage it incurs from these antibodies. The antibodies then stop the attack as the thyroid rests, but the thyroid then starts up production again after it has recovered from this attack. Then the antibodies attack the thyroid follcles again, as the hormone is produced, and so on and so on, over and over. Meanwhile, this is why you experience these up down up down physical and psychological symptoms. It is MISERABLE, but this IS the way it works. You need a doctor who understands the way this particular form of thyroid disease works, if this one isn't " trainable " , you have not time to waste now. The suppression of the TSH is sort of a " funeral " for your own thyroid, as it will only get more nodular and distorted in your neck, and it is VERY hard to accept that, once you realize that you have a very chronic disease, believe me, I know, I've been there, and so many of us have been. Hormone replacement is the only way, so far, to alleviate the symptoms, and you have to figure out which thyroid med or combination works best for YOUR body. You will find many many sympathetic people here who are or have been right where you are, most of us still working on it. Go in on the site and read as much as you possibly can. There is lots of good stuff on our site. WELCOME!!! (One moderator and Thyroid Advocate) New Bee to the Group > Hello All, > I am Sheryl and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto in Dec 06. Guest guest
You're welcome. Nothing about this is easy. For any of us. As far as doctors, you can check out our list in files, also the Database. I'm in Houston, but I see Dr. in Lubbock. Carol > > >> > > Hello All,> > > I am Sheryl and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto in Dec 06. Guest guest
Only time and experimentation will tell. We are all so individual here. Some folks do better on Armour Thyroid, others do fine with the synthetic T4, and others with a combo of any of the above, even adding synthetic T3 to the mix. We have a list of doctors in files on the site. As you read the folks here, they will tell you who they think the better doctors are, the worst, and all their experiences with them. So far, the only Houston area doctor that I know of, that anyone is showing good experiences with is Vivian Rodriquez, in Houston. Others will have opinions about different doctors.
