Yes, that's how it works with Dr. R. You stay overnight in Lubbock after the first appointment and have blood drawn in his office the next morning. Then you come back for results and treatment plan. Not sure I could have survived the drive. That's why we fly SW, even though they have tried to kill me with screw ups. The click 'n save specials are pretty inexpensive. My DH can only take a day from the office and that's why we've made those killer up and back in a day turn around trips. Wish I could take you myself. :-) Is there anyone else who can take you one or the other trip?

I might be able to hit up my mom but then who would watch my son? I will have to discuss this with family.

The inconvenience was totally worth it for me.

question on dr. robinson visit

I called and spoke to to schedule an appt. She said that I

would have to do three visits within 10 days. Is this what you have

done? I will be driving from Houston so the idea of having to drive

there twice within 2 weeks is a show stopper for me. She said I would

see him for 1 hour first visit, return next day for bloodwork and then

come back in 10 days for another visit with dr.

I can not make the drive alone and it is a long ways. My husband can

only take off so much time from work. Any comments?

Why don't you take both Mom and Son with you?

If the follow-up visit in just ten days is too much for you, be aware that the time interval can be increased to a month or more.

It's actually only 2 trips in two days. The 1st visit, lab work early the next morning (you have to stay overnight) adn then you return after 10 days. Totally worth it for me as well.. I'm going back for my 3rd or 4th follow up next Wednesday.Kim Hanson wrote: The inconvenience was totally worth it for me.Kim-----Original Message-----From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of CauleySent: Monday, July 16, 2007 2:51 PMTo: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: question on dr. robinson visitI called and spoke to to schedule an appt. Yes, that's the drill. Overnight and then a return trip. Then it gets easier as

you

return in 3 or 6 or 9 months and then a year. Everyone is different.

I was lucky in that my DH and I have our own business and he could schedule

time off to take me. I was stretched out in the back seat at first. Now he sees

Dr. R, too, so we go together in a marathon one day turnaround drive. We

leave around 10am and get back around midnight.

I know you are feeling really sick and this seems insurmountable right now,

but if there is any way you can find a friend or relative to add to your " team "

with your DH and get you there and back, IMHO you will finally get the care

you need. None of us from distant cities imagined that we would have to drive

or fly so far to get proper care, but we did. Carol and her DH and others come

from Houston, Austin and San , I believe, and there are folks who

come from Dallas. I know of one young man who drives in from Albequerque

and , who hasn't checked in for awhile, still drives there from Casper

WY with her DH, who also sees Dr. R. They also do a one day marathon

drive. Jan has reported others who have come from much further away. And

we all know it's been worth it.

If you follow the track the rest of us have been on with Dr. R, the first visits

could be the hardest. Then they might get easier like they did for us. Like us,

you might look back a year or two from now and say, why didn't I do this

earlier?

My best to you, -

Sara

Maybe there is a lab in Houston he could call your orders into before you came for the first visit, just do a complete workup, then procede with the second appt quicker, since you could bring your results with you.

Dr. R always wants the first blood draw done in his office. For subsequent visits, a local blood draw can be arranged.

Is it legal to do phone orders on labs, is that possible? I was thinking that was only possible with a signed ordered lab sheet. ANYONE could be calling in those orders.

There ya go, that's the only way that would work, as opposed to calling them in. That's how ours are done, as most places at a distance.

With labcorp, the dr. can go on-line and place an order then you go to any labcorp and they can retrieve the order. Problem is, not all the techs know how to do this on the computer and I the patient have had to show them.
