Guest guest
Hi Margaret! I was started on Lyrica and it worked amazingly well, but I gained 9 lbs in one week, and I typically don't gain weight. I was switced to Cymbalta. I started on 60 mgs and worked my way up to 120 mgs. It worked on neuropathic pain for me (the numbness and tingling pain that I always got in hands/feet) but didn't do much for overall trigger point or pain in general. I stayed on it for about a year. Then however, my mood went completely blah. I got really really depressed overnight. I dealt with it for awhile and finally talked to my doctor about it. He decreased the dose of Cymbalta to 60 and then added in 75mgs of Effexor. I felt much better within a week. The depression that hit was so strong it really scared me...but my mood improved immensely once the dose was lowered. Now, we are thinking of stopping the Cymbalta and using just the Effexor at a higher dose for FM. My doctor stated that the Effexor helped with the same imbalance as the Cymbalta so I might try that:)
Guest guest
I'm on cymbalta and is when I gained so much weight on a mere 60mg so I am down to 30 mg now. I have found myself more depressed again but haven't decided if I will act on it or not. I want off meds, not on. For me Effexor was a nightmare literally for me. I was acting out at night with sleep walking, going up and down the stairs on auto pilot to the bathroom to just sit there because I did not need to go and have both of my legs go totally numb and would fall asleep right there! When I told my Dr. what I was doing, he said that effexor can do that and it was not a pleasant side effect so...off of it I went! I don't usually get bad side effects from meds as a rule but then again, our whole world changes everyday so I really should not be surprised. > > Hi Margaret! > I was started on Lyrica and it worked amazingly well, > but I gained 9 lbs in one week, and I typically don't > gain weight. Guest guest
Hi , I have been on many many antidepressants over the years and it seems that everyone is different as to what works and what doesn't for them. I am talking now of using the meds as an anti depressant not for pain or anything else. I have also found that all of them have side effects and that it is a trade off of which side effects you can deal with for the relief you can get. For example, I deal with a dry mouth far better than I do with constipation. I don't like a dry mouth and it is very unpleasant, but it is better than the depression I would otherwise experience and so I will accept that if I have to. I will not, if at all possible, accept a med that causes weight gain. I just started Cymbalta and didn't realize it had a weight gain effect so that is distressing. I will have to see how I react to it. My understanding is that it causes a diminished appetite. Sandrea
Guest guest
Hi again Sweet Sandrea, I have to tell you that in the past few yrs, since this DD, I have been given antidepressants that are supposed to cause weight loss or not gain anyway to just gain 10lbs a month over 2 yrs and it was not showing signs of stopping! Fact was, I ate less than ever during that time too. It's best to not really go with what they say it should do but what does it do to you? It may work for you when it did not for me. I hope so! I am not clinically depressed and so I many times don't think I should be on a supliment but dealing with all of these problems has had it's effect on me and is why I am on something. Good Luck my dear! > > Hi , > I have been on many many antidepressants over the years and it seems > that everyone is different as to what works and what doesn't for them.
