My dad's hallucinations have become ever more present as this illness

continues to take its toll on him.

It used to be that he would hallucinate at night (starting 6:30ish

onwards) and in the early mornings. Even if he did see " stuff " in

between these times, he would cover it up or explain them away. Now

he's hallucinating pretty much the entire day and can no longer keep

what he sees from us.

What preoccupies my dad most is specks of dust which he sees floating

everywhere. Now, it's very possible that dust flies through the air

but the dust my dad sees is huge particles floating all around him.

What he does is he reaches for it and then very carefully brings it

up closely to his eyes and then seems surprised when he can't see it

from that vantage point.

Moreover, he rarely recognizes his room as being his room. He keeps

telling my mom he wants to go back to his room. When my mom shows

him his television, his pictures of my kids, his treats, his pillow

etc., he says they're his but he still wants to go back to his room.

I seem to recall other caregivers mentioning this as well.

We try not to correct my dad or give him the straight goods because

they don't seem to mean much to him. When he's upset by what he sees

we try to make him understand that what he sees doesn't exist but

this too is a tricky situation as well we all know.

Relentless, horrible, destructive, hateful, vengeful LBD!!!

He probably has what they call sundowners. Their symptoms become more

prominent after the sun starts down.

Speaking of sundowners..a thought just occured to me. When the sun

begins to go down, our bodies start to naturally produce the hormone

melatonin (causes you to fall asleep)....I wonder if LBD patients

are producing enough of it??? Does anyone have their LO on

melatonin? I bet there would be a lot less sleep disturbances....

If anyone has kids who are ADD/ADHD melatonin is great for them.

Gets them to sleep. Just a thought....

Dear Coyote:

I am so glad to hear from you. I could not access the pics. My fault, i;ll

get to it. I am sure they are great.

You always have some interesting information. The idea of melatonin is

really good. I would have thought that they produced too much melatonin, but

too

little makes more sense, since melatonin has a relaxing effect and sundowning

is sush an aggitated state. I am also glad to know about melatonin and

ADD/ADHD. Maybe I should take some now! LOL!

I keep you in my prayers and hope everything is going ok with you and your

family, love,

Josie
