hey all

wondering if anyone else has ever had this before.

so, as I said in previous posts - within the last 4 weeks, things

went really crazy, as I had this stomach bug from hell where I

hardly ate anything and became really dehydrated and lost ALOT of

weight, and then I went to the hospital and that made it worse and

etc etc etc...

okay, so now I am eating fairly normal again. my nutritionist said

the rapid weight loss, although not the healthiest thing in the

world, isn't any danger to my body, and that the stomach was a

strange gift in a way because it really detoxed my body, and while

my body is not 100% healthy (by any stretch of the imagination) I

notice that I do have a bit more energy (which my nutritionist says

is due to the detox, getting more vitamen D which is helping my

parathyroid, and also my weight loss because there is less of me to

lug around, which makes it easier)

so yay for that

HOWEVER

and this is the part that is driving me nuts. my body has gone

through alot of changes and I find that the way I used to treat my

body (in terms of managing my illness, as it still needs plenty of

managing) doesn't work anymore, and I am left with no plan, and just

having to experiment to see what works (which naturally is a bit

unsettling because you have setbacks and you don't always know why)

but also - my allergies are going nuts! its not just an increase in

allergies (though that's part of it) but my allergies change without

warning almost every 2-3 days. Two days ago, I was fine drinking a

bottle of vitamen water. Yesterday, I get through half a bottle and

then all of a sudden, I start to swell up.

and what's even nuttier is that I don't even know if it's the

vitamen water, or if it's something else (I didn't eat lunch that

day as I just wasn't hungry), or what??

being sick is one thing. but being sick and not knowing how to take

care of yourself is just freakin' maddening

does anyone have this or experienced this weird allergy changes?

any help/info is greatly appreciated!

thanks -michele

Hi Michele, yes I went through the EXACT same thing about 10 years ago. I

think I emailed you and suggested your " flu " might be allergic, for that

reason. The gastric upset (I already had IBS, but a whole new level), the

sudden weight loss, and the sudden and myriad new allergies. You need to be

careful, swelling up is a serious allergic reaction, not to scare you but I

had a few brushes with anaphylaxis, including to a multivitamin. I ended up

on a diet of only chicken and white rice and water for years, plus I found a

totally hypoallergenic supplement for total reactors. I only really improved

with the NAET treatments (though they didn't help with cat allergy, my

oldest and deepest one since childhood). Please make sure you have some

serious antihistamines on hand, and don't dismiss serious symptoms of

allergic reaction.

My sense is that it was an up regulation of that part of my immune system. I

had just quit smoking, which of course is an immune suppressant. Beware

sudden changes when you have ME! Anyway I did get it sorted out, but it took

awhile. You need to be careful with anything new right now, or combination

things like vitamins. If you want to email me off list about this that would

be fine, I have been through all this and come out the other side. It is a

common effect of long term ME, sadly. I knew of lots of others who went

through the same thing too. Anyone else want to weigh in on this? Take Care,

Aylwin xox
