It is possible to be hypothyroid with a TSH lower than 5. I was severely hypothyroid with a TSH of 3.4. You have a legal right to copies of all lab reports. I suggest that you get them, keep them, and learn to read them. Sleep apnea can be caused by hypothyroidism. I never had that diagnosis, but I did have episodes where I would awaken gasping for breath. They stopped when I started Armour. They only came back when I attempted to take all of my Armour before 3 pm as some folks recommend. Since then, I make a point of taking my last dose of Armour after 7 pm and have had no recurrences. The doctor list is in "Files." There is also a database, where members can write up the docs

they have seen for thryoid. Excess facial hair would suggest that you may need to be evaluated for PCOS and insulin resistance. We do like the docs who test and balance all of the hormones: thyroid, S*E*X* and adrenal. wrote: Thanks Jan! My name is Gosdin and I live in Spring, Texas. and now has increased the dosage to 50 mg. I have not gotten a copy of my test results or I would share those. I do know at the beginning my TSH levels were only at 5, not very high, but I have had symptoms that are similar to Hypothyroidism, so my doctor said lets give Synthroid a whirl. So here I am.Oh and I guess I should fill you in, I am 38, married, and a mother of two children. I began having symptoms after my second child was born. HIgh blood pressure, I coudn't lose weight, and breaking my left foot twice (and 4 of the toes on my left foot since the two previous breaks). I have always been active, a little on the hyper side, perky, and generaly an outgoing person. But something happend with my hormones after my son was born. I additionaly became depressed, extremely moody, and then the weight began to pile on. I have gained 100 pounds all together and have worked out at the gym, gardening, yard work,

etc. But it never seems to be enough. Finally going to the doctor I thought things would be better, but they are not. I still feel the same tired, moody, depressed, but more than that, tingling and numbness in my fingers and hands off and on all the time. I have also been told by my nephew I have more hair on my face then he does on his (14 years old). Of course I told him he was still just a baby and babies do not have beards yet!!Oh I could go on and on. I am just really tired of trying to find a doctor that will listen and do testing other than the same thyroid panel. I also have obstructive sleep apnea and sleep with a CPap machine at night. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, my periods were terrible, pain, clotting, irregular, and I had polyps. My gyno did an abdominal procedure and looked at my ovaries, she said it was unlikely my symptoms were PCOS as I didnt have any cycts. I did look into the doctors list and I am thinking of seeing one of them at Baylor for a second opinion. When I mentioned to my endo about my facial hair and how I was nervous about waxing, she just replied oh you will get used to it I did. We didnt even discuss other tests or adrenal issues. Just changed my meds and sent me on my way. I am so tired of having medicine shoved at me. I am on 5 different medications, 2 for blood pressure, 1 thyroid, 1 sleeping, and 1 restless leg syndrome. I feel there is something really wrong with me and all everyone wants to do is give me medicine and not search for the cause. I failed to mention

that my face is puffy all the time now, especially my eyes, and they are always blood shot. I look like I have been on a 5 year drinking and eating binge, which of course is not the case. Well thank you for the information I appreciate all comments and stories as I said in my intro. Take care! Jan wrote: It is possible to be hypothyroid with a TSH lower than 5.

Have you had your testosterone checked? My electrologist was getting nowhere with electrology and sent me to an endocrinologist; my testosterone levels were hugely elevated; they did a CT scan, and found a large tumour on the adrenal gland. They removed the entirel adrenal gland. The hair production stopped.

Hi Kim, Thanks for the info. Lubbock would be a bit far for me, 8 hours minimum. I am not far from the Medical Center here in Houston, so I thought I would try finding a specialist there. Houston stinks for good thyroid doctor. I'd only go to the Med Center if I

had ThyCa. Some people like the Holtz Clinic, but it costs. If I didn't

have a GP that I can push, I'd go see Dr R.

Proximity to the Medical Center doesn't mean finding a doctor that can help you. I live about 15 minutes away. Oh, there may be some there, but we haven't had much luck. We seem to fall into some sub-group of patients who don't do well on the standard treatment. In which case the 'specialists' say it can't be our thyroid and refer us for psych care. I believe most, if not all, your symptoms are thyroid related. Your best bet would be to see one of the Armour Docs listed here in Files. In my case I was simply too sick to go doctor shopping, had reached the end of my rope and needed care 'now'. Sounds like you're about there too. My doctor is Dr. in Lubbock.

Good luck,

Carol

Having been to the Hotze Health & Wellness Center, I can say that it

costs BIG and that I think they intend to keep me undermedicated.

I live in The Woodlands and go to Dr. McManus. She is a wellness doctor (she is great), and because of my rapid heartbeat she thought it best for me to see a doctor in a clinical setting. So my DH and I decided that the best thing for me to do would be go see Dr. in Lubbock. It is a long drive, but we think it is worth it so far. I actually drove "by myself" to the airport yesterday to pick up my kids that were coming home from Boston. Mind you they had to text me to remind me that I had to do it, and my DH called me to remind me to go, but I made it there and back, and we even went out to eat afterwards. Just a few months ago I would never have been able to do it. I know I have a long road to go, but baby steps is all I need right now.

That was my recollection. I know a lady in my homeschool group who loves

them and they treat her kids too, but she says it does cost her.
