I'm assuming you washed off the dye -- if not that could certainly be the

problem. Even after washing off the dye, my son had some similar difficulties,

though not as drastic, when he first tried Valtrex. We were told that the

adjustment period where it's beginning to work can last even a bit longer than

three weeks. Dr. G switched him to Famvir, which he did well on without the

negatives. After a year on Famvir, he was able to go back to Valtrex without

the

problems and progressed further.

Famvir addresses many of the same viral problems as Valtrex, though I

understand each works a bit differently or at least better on different viruses.

There are different fillers though which may make a difference for some

sensative

kids. It was a bit cheaper than Valtrex while my son was using it though

strangely right before he switched the drug company talked the insurance company

into making Valtrex the preferred drug so the co-pay increased for Famvir,

even though it was still the cheaper drug.

Thanks Gaylen this is the track I was thinking of trying - I definitely don't

want to try Valtrex again for along while - yes I washed off the blue writing on

it as well. I am thinking he is just now well enough to tolerate this one.

What Famvir like? is this a totally different compound? I guess its probably

the same price as Valtrex?

Thanks again

Terri,

The Valtrex you are getting from Dr Tan in Singapore is the British made

version - it is white with blue writing - the version in the US is blue all

over and that is what they wash off completely!

FamVir is famciclovir a similar class of medicine and metabolises to

Aciclovir. Some kids do better on it.. ours seems to.

It is more expensive though.

Oh dear this is very costly - but none the less I am watching my little one

respond really nicely to Valtrex so we will have to do a trial if the Dr thinks

its a good idea.

can you remember the difference between valtrex and Famivir from Dr Tans

Dispensary? just if you can remember that would be helpful and give us another

starting point - Singapore dollars are fine I can work it out.

If its so similar to the Acyclovir he may just be fine on it.
