Courtenay - I don't have a dimmer switch. I use a small book

light, " The Itty Bitty Book Light " that you can get at book stores or

on line, as well as the replacement bulbs. There are many others just

like it. They just clip onto the book itself. It has a light directed

at the book page, not into your eyes, although you do get reflected

light off the page. I just like it because it is a softer light, and a

smaller area of light, and as the bulbs slowly burn out they get less

harsh. That way the room stays very dark. Like you have also said, I

have found that reading something that isn't too exciting or

controversial is better at bedtime, so I don't read magazines or the

newspaper or anything that makes me think too much. I can get sleepy

and just reach down and turn off the light and put the book on the

table and go to sleep.

I would think a hardware store or lighting store might have dimmer

controls if you want to dim a lamp.
