Guest guest
The best thing for you to do is go to the diffrent day cares and sit there. Ask questions and no question is out of the question, and look into local stay at home moms/daycares. Subject: Just wondering To: polymicrogyria Date: Friday, August 21, 2009, 12:07 PM Since my son has been diagnosed with BPP I had to quit my job and focus on getting him the medical attention that he needs. Its been 2 yrs. Now that the apointments have " some-what " slowed down, I was thinking about finishing school and going back to work. I have 2 months left of school to become a medical assistant. I was wondering if anyone in this group has their child in a daycare and how they feel about it. I'm kina skeptical of putting him in daycare just because he requires special needs and attention. I'm so scared that something would happen and he can't talk (does A LOT of sign) he wouldn't be able to tell his caretaker what is wrong. I have found daycares who except children with special kids but it still doesn't sit right with me. I think its because I'm so used to him being with me all this time. I would appreciate any feedback from all of you. Thanks. Guest guest
I had in daycare until he was 3...then we got a nanny....then he got worse over time. I did the reverse...worked until it became impossible medically to leave him. But he did great in daycare back then (pre seizure days) and his therapists came there. I actually miss working out of the home...but its so darn complicated now...... It sounds like in your case you just have to find the right place. .mom to age 11 Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T Sending Best Wishes!! > To: polymicrogyria > Date: Thursday, July 30, 2009, 4:09 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi , > > > > I know you must be fairly near time to have your baby. Guest guest
My son, Jody, was recently diagnosed with global bilateral polymicrogyria. We are waiting to hear if there is can be a further diagnosis. He has been in daycare since he was 1 years old. He is now 2 1/2. Daycare has been AMAZING for him. He cannot talk or sign but still is able to thrive in the daycare where he is the only child with special needs. When he was 1 year I placed him in a more structured daycare (pre-preschool) where my daughter had attended and she had loved it. This did not work out for him as well. He loved it but couldn't understand the teacher's instructions. I now have him in a much more relaxed daycare setting where the only structure is lunch and nap. He loves playing with the other children and has learned so much from them. He mimics their behavior and has advanced quite a bit since attending. His therapists conduct his therapy at his daycare with him. It works really well. I think the most important component in finding a good fit for your child, is to find a daycare provider that is really loving towards the kids. Patient and FLEXIBLE. Less structure is better in my opinion. Best of luck! ************************ Hickingbotham Subject: Just wondering To: polymicrogyria Date: Friday, August 21, 2009, 10:07 AM Since my son has been diagnosed with BPP I had to quit my job and focus on getting him the medical attention that he needs.
