Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I am so sorry about the arthritis. I am also being Dx'ed after years of pain. The sad thing is when it has already progressed so far, it is a lot more treatable in the early stages.when no one knows about it <sigh>. I forgot how old you are.but I think that waiting until age 55 or so is ridiculous.you need your knees now, and by the time those 20 years roll around they will have even simpler ways. My Dad finally got his knees replaced (they had been bothering him since he was a teenager) at about 60 and it gave him a whole new lease on life. BTW I have found that standardized Turmeric, called Curcumin, bought as a supplement (the spice rack kind does not have enough active ingredient) has been very helpful to me in curtailing pain and inflammation. Just a tip to try.also Glucosamine/MSM and fish oils.don't know if you are interested in alternative things but I was surprised at how much it helped. Please do not lose heart, the doc does not KNOW that you will be in a wheelchair, that is just his opinion. Joint medicine is advancing rapidly and you never know what will be around the corner. However I am VERY glad you don't have cancer! Some good news in with the not so good. Please take extra care, Aylwin xox

Guest guest
Oh Heidi, I know exactly what your going through. My husband has the same problem and his surgeon told him that he's been without cushion for a long time to where the bone is locking into bone now. He thought my husband was there for drugs as many other patients are (my husband can't even take asperin!) He sleeps on the recliner so he can keep moving his knees in an attempt to keep them from locking up but they still do anyway. His surgeon told him to wait until he literally falls and can't get back up before he will do surgery. He works standing on cold cememt all day! I do what I can for him and he does for me....just seems to work out better that way instead of thinkin about ourselves only, we think of each other first always. I hope you can take something that will help you unlike my sweetie, but I know even if you take something...it won't take it all away. Oh Dear....so many suffering from so many types of pain. I " m full of it now. Exhausted and since I got major electrical shock through my hand to fingertips from removing top off my coffee cup...wrist it throbbing so I better not type more now. God Bless! > > I went to the orthopaedic surgeon today.. > He told me my knees have the most agressive form of arthritis... > He said it has started in the patellofemoral joint and moved outwards and my knees are bone on bone with no cushioning between the bones left.. > He said I have the knees of a 67 year old, he even called in another specialist because he could not believe the damage... > No wonder I am in such pain... > They wont do a knee replacement until I am much older because they only last a maximum of 20 years if you are lucky.. > He said I will probably be in a wheelchair within 20 years.. > He said that physiotherapy will not help.. > And also not to have cortisone injections because he does not recommend them for me... > He said to stay off them as much as possible but to do gentle stretches on the lounge or in bed so my muscles dont waste away.. > He said there is basically nothing they can do.. > Here in Australia the surgeons all treat different parts of the body, like spine is done by a different doctor to knees.. > So I have to go to the spinal orthopaedic on 20th December. > The good thing is the cyst is not cancerous and does not have to come out unless it gets bigger... > So that is my visit today.. >
Guest guest
Aylwin, I am sorry to hear you suffer... I am 34 at the moment... I think it is ridiculous to wait too, that is why I have a second and third opinion set up next month to see what they say.. I am very interested in natural therapies, I actually moderate a board about natural therapies.. I have recently started Reiki for the pain and each session gives me about 3 days of slight relief.. I will try your tips, I have heard of the glucosamine/MSM but not the Tumeric... I will give it a go... I am flaring today, we have storms coming, it just started raining and like you can probably relate we have a built in barometer... LOL I hope you are not in too much pain today... And thank you for the support.. Hugs and Healing Heidi
Guest guest
Oh , I am so sorry to hear about husbands suffering.. I can imagine he must be in pain and the standing on the cold cement would not be easy for him... That is wonderful that you both help each other.. It is hard when both parties are sick and suffering.. Yes I take morphine and codeine, that is always in my system.. I take oxycodone on the bad days, last month I took 16 oxy pills, I only take them on the really bad days because I dont want become immune... I hope you start feeling better soon.... That electrical shock does not sound good Hugs and Healing Heidi

Guest guest
Hi Heidi, yes I am very reactive to weather changes too…I got sick with ME @ 30, just a little younger than you – I’m glad you are aggressively pursuing the best care. You have to take the Turmaric all the time, for me it kicked in after about a month (I take 1000mg/day). I have used many alternative modalities, and in terms of energy healing, whether Reiki, Healing Touch or many others, I find I get some pain relief and more mental clarity for a day or two. I couldn’t use any meds or herbs for years because of severe allergies…now all I have for pain is occasional aspirin – I get hives if I use it much but once in a while it helps!
