Guest guest
Does it get better ? I am trying to cut back, but then I am hungry. My stomach even growls for food these days...like in the OLD days...ugh... I have cut my sweets in half the last couple of days and eaten more protein. Not sure if it is helping yet. ...to early to tell. Ginger <>< > > Me, too! I swear, I hit the three year mark and gained about twenty > pounds almost literally overnight. Guest guest
Thanks, Pat. I think I can get it for free from my yooper site. I just have to go look. Come to think of it, I used to get mail from them but have gotten none in ages. Hmm. Marta
Guest guest
Gabby I wrote you a long reply, and have no idea of why it didn't post about making jerky. Okay here goes again. You turn the oven on to the lowest you can. So your gas bill will not be high. If you put it in late at night, by morning it will probably be done. So your oven isn't tied up. I put a piece of foil in the bottom of the oven to catch any drips. It makes a little mess on the racks, but if you pull them out when you take the meat out and clean them it comes off okay. Heck it is worth the little cleanup mess to not have to buy another piece of equipment if you aren't going to use it for other things. I used to use my dehydrator for a lot of fruits and vegetables. Wore my good one out in fact. If you have someone who is handy, and I don't know where you live, but here in CA it gets plenty warm during the summer, pieces of screen wire fastened on wood can be used to lay it on, then the same over it and put in the sun. There are all sorts of ways to get it dried. The same can be said for the way it is seasoned. It can be a dry rub, or as I originally did, highly seasoned boiling water in which I dipped the strips. which essentially cooked the meat, then I just dried them. Just make sure you use lean thin meat. You can use any kind of meat. I have used beef, deer, moose and bear. I have been going to try turkey and chicken, simply because I know it is used a lot, and I haven't. I like trying different things. Same for seasonings. I try all kinds. There is a vaccum sealer container that I used with the terayaki sauce. It makes a sweeter kind of flavor. I like it sometimes. My tastes change all the time. I personally have never put sugar in mine, yet I know it would be good with just a hint in it. Just didn't at the time I was making it. I haven't tried the ground meat, but I think it would make it like those Slim Jims you buy in the store. Kind of greasy, but sometimes I like those even. I prefer the hot spicy kind. Lots of ground of whote red pepper flakes. Try onion, garlic, black pepper, maybe even a little bell pepper flakes added in. Okay, so you may be called Gabby, but it should be me. Guest guest
okay Pearl I dot all this down thanx so much.So if the oven is set at the lowest temp my gas bill wont be very high then.So pretty much place them at night then the next day should be done, got it! But i wont be sleeping very comfy knowing tht oven is left on so i will be getting up at all times checking, lol my dad used to do the classic way of hang meat on a clotheline in a closed screen tent. Guest guest
You're welcome, Pat. I was hoping mine would be here today, but it isn't. Yours was easier since you only wanted a single flavour. Ugh. I spent the evening at the Animal Urgent Care. Oooops! I am sick because I injured one of my cats. Accidently, of course. Cripes, I was hoping to see a movie tonight or at least rest, but no, no rest for me! Marta
Guest guest
You all could come play with me and the babies in cool New Hampshire! All four are now walking... like little shmoos just squirting off in all directions. We took them to the beach yesterday. What treasures. Have fun anyway with out me! Miss you all.
