Hi Karey and welcome. Your doctor was right to start you on thyroid medications. Your TSH is way too high even though it is in 'normal' range and your Free T3 and Free T4 could come up too. If your hair loss is hypo related, it will come back. You may actually see more as you start the Synthroid, but it will level off as well. I am surprised that she started you off at 75mcg, but I'm assuming she told you what to watch for in terms of getting too much. Will you be retested in 6 weeks? If your depression symptoms are hypo related, then you will be able to wean from the Zoloft as well and that would be a good thing. I'm sorry that someone treated your hypo symptoms with antidepressants, but you're in good company with that one. Sores and dandruff sounds more like excema or something like that. I think that can be hypo, but I've not had those symptoms and so I'm not really sure. That's one answer that will educate both of us! Good luck and keep us posted... Judy

Hi my name is Karey and I've finally been diagnosed with hypothyroid. My dr was hesitant to prescibe me synthroid because "technically" I fall within normal ranges. She told me to keep a copy of my bloodwork where she had written why she is treating me so as not to upset her peers. I am confused with my readings even though she tried to explain it to me -I was never good at math and word problems well....LOL TSH-5.03 .4-5.50 considered normalT3 up 30 22-35%T3 free 298 230-420 pg/dlT4 free 1.1 0.8-1.8 ng/dltetosterone-low

Welcome Karey! I'm glad you finally have a diagnosis. I too was undiagnosed for at least 25 years.

You'll love the support from this group.

Blessings,

Kim

I have suffered for years-last year colonoscopy with polyps removed-constant pain and constipation. This past June 14 had hysterectomy with total pelvic reconstruction and only thing I have left is right ovary-but all the pain with polysystic ovary and endomyosis I'm glad the parts are gone but now I'm on 150mg zoloft for the extreme depression and brain fog. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia this year -but what caught her attention was my freezing episodes when we keep our house set to 80 due to crazy high electric bills! I've had symptoms of hypo for years but always told I'm in normal range and put on an antidepressant. I mean my hair has been falling out for years but now I've got "sores" on my scalp and this dandruff like stuff and its falling out in clumps now-please someone tell me we don't go bald!! I'm so sick of feeling tired and aching -we have 4 kids and they need me healthy. The big 2 are always asking my husband why mommy doesn't ever leave the house. Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and welcome any suggestions or advice! Thanks for reading ....Karey

Have you had your ferritin levels tested? Low ferritin can produce all of the symptoms you describe. Even though the range goes down to about 10, most of us need to have our ferritin between 50 and 100 to be free of the hypothyroid-like symptoms. What about antibody tests? Thyroglobulin antibodies and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies should be tested. The presence of antibodies would give statistical support to the treatment with thyroid hormone. Hi, Karey,

I believe the TSH range has been changed, and not that recently, a couple of years at least. I think it's .3-3.0, not sure, but 3 is the top and you're over. So you're not 'normal'...

I would hope your dr. is treating you because you are obviously sick.

My best advice would be for you to go to the Files section here and find yourself a new doctor.

I hope your husband's answer to the children is, "Mom is very sick, but we're going to help her get well."

Good luck,

Carol

We were getting a lot of subpotent hormones from two different local compounders. We have had no such problem with WI. WI also has smaller capsules and better prices than most compounders.Karey wrote: Hi Jan-I'm curios why a doctor uses a mail order verses one in the area? I get my compounds at northside pharmacy here in McKinney. They will work with your insurance and since my youngest Christian was a reflux baby getting his cremes and meds they were able to get my insurance filed which helped us financially alot. Now my tetosterone creme they couldn't get covered but I was happy they at least tried. Anyway just curious...thanks

Jan--

From time to time I have to have medicines compounded for my daughter.

I am curious...which local compounders are you referring to? I'd like

to know so I can stay away from them for my daughter's meds.

Thanks,

No. My doc used to send most of his compound prescriptions to Caprock in Lubbock (local for him). When I started getting subpotent hormones from them, I thought it might be that they were exposed to too much heat in shipping, so I asked him to send my prescriptions to Family Drug, not too far from me. I got subpotent prescriptions from them, too. That is about the time he started sending most of his prescriptions to WI. There are two ways of knowing if your hormones are any good: symptoms and blood tests. If you are taking hormones, you should have your blood levels tested regularly. Family Drug in is the only one local here. The other one was Caprock Pharmacy in Lubbock, local for the doc, but not for me. Two local compounders with good reputaions are Abrams Royal Pharmacy and Doughtery's (sp?) Airway Pharmacy at Preston Royal. moonlady0000 wrote: Jan--From time to time I have to have medicines compounded for my daughter. I am curious...which local compounders are you referring to? Thanks, Jan.

Never used Abrams Royal. Have used Daugherty's...outrageous prices!

Recently, we used Creative Compounds in . I liked their

philosophy. They will only compound so that their integrity is not

compromised by filling premade drugs which bogs down the whole

pharmacy because of all the big pharmacy company bureaucracy.

Actually, there said there is one premade drug that they

sell...Armour thyroid. We had a complicated problem with my

daughter, and the pharmacists had some creative solutions that ended

up working out for us.

I really do love People's Pharmacy on 183 & 620 but they carry lots of

pharmaceutical grade supplements and you pay extra for that, which is

ok if you have the money to do so. I'll have my prescription for armour

switched over to Target since we never go to Costco. I have the packet

from Women's International. I should as k Dr Manzanero about them. I'm

sure he uses them.

in the Dallas area, Target and Costco had the best prices on Armour.
