Guest guest
I have thyroid cancer, so I asked my endo last year, and he didn't seem to think that the cancer was a reason to get one. I've never had either the shot or the flu.I'm going to inquire this year due to other health issues that have come up since last year. I hope no one strongly recommends it. I really don't want to get one. Should people with our health issues get flu shots? I'm thinkin' yes, but thought I'd check. Carol

Guest guest
I never get the flu shot and I haven't had the flu since 1981. Dr Van Wagenen in Austin told me to not get them. Guest guest
We feel it is important that our crowd of pts only get the preservative free flu shots. Of course, they are more expensive. --- Carol wrote: > Thanks, sign me up. Guest guest
The flu is awful. If Sharon's getting one, I'm getting one. Carol But what about Hashimoto's Disease > people? Guest guest
I have not, but I will order some. I rarely get sick and don’t use antibiotics – I use Olive Leaf Extract instead – it is a natural antibiotic. Thanks for the info. Have you ever tried the oil of oregano to prevent illness? I buy the Premier Research Labs Oil Of Oregano. I take 1-2 drops per day during the cold and flu season and I haven't had the flu since 1981 or a cold since 1993. *knock on wood* If I happen to get a sore throat, 6 drops 4x per day in some water and it's gone in no time at all. Guest guest
Thimerosal is the preservative. It contains mercury.rgrprop wrote: I am just a statistical sample of one, so my experiences, along with $3.95, will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I've been getting flu shots for many years, which gave me nothing other than a slightly sore muscle until I learned to relax my arm. I have no allergy to eggs. Every RN I've seen in the flu shot lines, and my own doc, repeat the mantra that if you get the flu after having a flu shot from the newer "killed" virus, you already had it in your body and were getting it anyway. When they had the old live virus, I remember getting sick, but I probably had the flu already even then.I've had flu shots all through my time of being treated for my hypo condition by Dr. , and I've been shot up with antibiotics for pneumonia and bronchial infections over the years, and my Hashi antibodies have been going down. I don't know enough about the immune system to be able to talk about the interrelatedness of it all. But I do know that I don't want to get the flu if at all possible. I shudder at the thought of dealing with being sick at all, and the time it will take to get over it. So I'm taking my doc's advice and getting the vaccine. I've called the physician who will be giving the vaccine to all our staff and caregivers to find out if they will get me the type without preservatives. I've never had one of those. What is the problem with the preservatives?Sara>> Aren't we supposed to stay away from anything that boost our immune > systems. Guest guest
Yes, I do remember that now. I had a heavy metals panel done back in '04 and nothing showed up. Can't worry about the previous shots now, I guess. > > Thimerosal is the preservative. It contains mercury. >

Guest guest
I have decided to get my flu shot. thanks, Sharon...I guess I will take the risk and take what I can if I can't find the preservative free ones. From what I've read there is a likelihood of getting one that is preservative free because they are making more and more. steph
