Hi Wayne - I'm so sorry things aren't working out for you.

I too take oxycontin and percocet for breakthrough. I take wellbrutin

in the evening - sometimes it helps me sleep, sometimes not. TV, I

find, is pretty good for that - if not, I simply watch TV all night. If

its bad, I take more meds - my doctor understands. (I moved and I've

been to see 2 docs already and they won't deal with me - you'd think I

had a terrible contagious disease. I may have to fly back to Ontario

just to get more medication - 2500 miles away!) I used to take 40 mg.

oxy, 3 times a day. Percocet 4 times. My Dr. didn't like that, too

much Tylenol. It was upped to 60 mg, 3 times a day, and I find that

most days I get away with 4 percs. two first thing in the am. with the

oxy, which is around 7-8 a.m. I take another 60 mg. around 2-3, I

always nap for an hour or so, or at very minimum , lie down to

read/tv/movie, whatever. Around 8 I take the other 60 mg. and another

2 percocet. I am not active - i can't work, outdoors means a walk or

roller blade for a hour or so. Rest, then a little

housework/surfing/phoning, or preparing the evening meal while I can.

Usually after 4-5 I can't do much except put things on the stove/in

oven. If I haven't prepared the veggies early in the day, dinner

doesn't get cooked.

I find the oxy works fairly well for me, although I still feel pain, but

most days I can communicate and I'm " ok " as far as the chronic pain will

let me. Oxy has never worked for 12 hours for me, and if I leave it

much past 6 or 7 hours, then I need breakthrough meds and life is not

good. Sleep is not the greatest but I don't know if its pain or the

meds. I don't have the sweating and I can't drive because my reflexes

are slower because of the meds. I've been taking this amount since

March 02 - maybe you just need to get used to it. When I first started,

I slept a lot. Now I nap in the afternoons. I do find though, that

every few weeks or 3 wekks, I get so tired that I can sleep on/off for

2 days. I've come to accept this - what else can I do? I don't know if

its simply a build up of being tired of living with pain (I'm tired all

the time) or the meds.

Maybe its a matter of taking lower amounts more often - who knows.

Percocet is the only thing that helps me with breakthrough. I've tried

numerous other pain meds, and this seems to be ok for now.

Hope this helps........... Bonnie
