Guest guest
I have been on armour now for about 4 months. I am up to 105 mg and will go up to 120 mg in the next week or so, depending on what you guys think. In the last 2 months, I have gained 25 lbs., mostly around my middle. My brain is functioning better than it has in a long time but I am still very tired, having major sinus problems and arthritis is flaring up more. My FT3 and FT4 were pretty low (in the bottom 25%). My dr. has never added in straight T4 to armour and is concerned about the side effects. I guess what I am asking is HELP!!! Is this normal to gain weight on armour like this? Is it because of lack of T4 or is the armour causing the weight gain? I am feeling so desparate right now I am tempted to go back to Synthroid because I had no weight gain on it. I just can't be going up and down 45 lbs. every year. My other alternative is to increse my armour faster. I am already having hot flashes on the armour and my anxiety is so so. I just don't know what to do. I have another nodule growing, which did not show up on ultrasound. Any help would be appreciated. Things are feeling very out of control for me right now. Guest guest
Water retention can be the result of hypothyroidism, or it can be a sign that healing is taking place. My doc's wife says that when she started Armour, she looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy for over a year. Then the edema resolved itself. I have never heard of any adverse side effects from adding synthetic T4 to Armour. There area very few people who do not do well on synthetic T4 at all, but I have never heard of any side effects that were not dose-related. I personally like the Armour plus synthetic levothyroxine combination very much. If you would like to post your actual lab results together with the reference ranges and the exact name of each test, we may be able to comment.
