I happened to read something interesting on healthtalk.com regarding melatonin and thought I'd pass it along. It is only a theory as of now, but researchers in Italy have reported that a rise in melatonin levels parallels a rise in proinflammatory molecules in the blood. Melatonin may be associated with resistance to cortisol or steroids. This was an answer in the "Ask the Doctor" section regarding melatonin use with patients suffering from autoimmune diseases.
