So there is hope after being optimized???? Yay, if that's so, I will be patient....Carole Henning wrote: I agree with Jan. Please try to be patient. We all have or are fighting the same battle as you. I did more harm to my long term recovery by trying to exercise and diet my way back to a normal weight before I was thyroid med optimized. A year of optimized medication is about what it took before my weight dropped back to normal.

Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better.

Yes, I fit into all the clothes I wore before going hypo. In fact, a

lot of them are too BIG because I am exercising sensibly now and didn't

before. I did make some lifestyle changes to get those last 10 lbs off.

I joined a gym and I worked out several times a week. I also started

taking pilates. I also went seriously low carb. Because I went

menopausal during the hypo years, I was told by people that I would

never get those last 10 lbs off. They were wrong! The weight is off. My

skin is shrinking to fit my new body. Budda belly and fat face are

pretty much history. But doing these things before I was optimized for

almost a year didn't work.

I had lost 60 pounds before my body turned on me and started going hypo. Now I have put on 20 pounds and I am not a happy camper.

I have been on Armour since July 1, 2001. I have only been able to lose weight now that I am on 300 mg of Armour plus 37.5 mcg of Lannett levothyroxine. I was only able to tolerate that dose after increasing my sex hormone doses by a considerable amount, supplementing my iron, and cutting caffiene to a bare smidgeon. What you need may be highly individual. Imelda Macias wrote: So there is hope after being optimized???? Yay, if that's so, I will be patient....Carole Henning

Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.

Yes I do know it is highly individual, but it helps to know what others are doing when the doctor seems to think that 2 gr is a large dose! I, too am not small and i take meds with meals as well! thanks

300 mg is 5 grains. But do not think that 5 grains is the answer for everyone. I am a large woman and I also take my thyroid meds with food, which can reduce absorption by up to 50%. What you may need is highly individual. I hope you can find a good doc. sle816@... wrote: Jan, is 300 mg is 5gr armour? I am going to increase mine from 2.5 to 2.75 this

Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.

It is unfortunate when a doc has a pre-conceived notion about thyroid dosing that leaves many patients undermedicated. This is one reason that I sometimes drop a doc from our list. There is a lady in our local group on eight grains. A lady in Australia takes 12 grains. A lady in our group who had gastric bypass is on 15 grains! I do not think that the 300 mg is even my optimal dose, but I will need more estrogen to be able to tolerate more Armour. I am thinking that I will end up on 330 or 360 mg and be able to dispense with the synthetic levothyroxine. sle816@... wrote: Yes I do know it is highly individual, but it helps to know what others are doing when the doctor seems to think that 2 gr is a large dose!
