Oy..

I never realized just how dangerous mercury was til this year. I'm

so paranoid I'm going to break mine...

I've seen a new glass one that doesn't use mercury. Is that the one

you're talking about? Does anyone know if it works just as well? I

have seen them at Walgreens and CVS.

Sorry about the dentist. I haven't gone in a year and I'm so

mortified at what they'll find...I always end up having to get a root

canal.

Gosh -- those things are SO fragile! I was so annoyed at my DH for

breaking one and then I went and dropped one -- trying to do too many

things at once. EEK! I looked up how to clean up mercury on the

internet and you wouldn't have believed it! I just swiped them up

with sticky tape and sealed them in a ziplock baggie. What did you

do? (ouch - the dentist!)

Mercury thermometers were taken off the marked several years ago. The new

glass ones do not have mercury.

They are not off the market. They are only unvailable for purchase in some

states. I buy them

every month and have them shipped to my office.

So, why does Dr. Rind say this:

" I have found digital oral thermometers most appropriate for

monitoring metabolism. There are many good models available. I have

found the Lumiscope Digital Thermometer to be one of the most accurate

for the price and use these with my patients. I do not recommend

mercury thermometers because: they expose you and the environment to

toxic mercury when they break; they are too slow; and, the accuracy

depends on leaving them in your mouth the same length of time each time

you measure. I do not recommend axillary temperatures because the

axillae are relatively cooler and more variable in people with stressed

adrenals. Ear thermometers are the least accurate of all. "

So, I know you said it has to be mercury in the " mercury vs. digital "

question...

Does that apply to the glass " mercury alternative " ones, too?

I also have another question for you guys..

Today (and last Saturday) I overslept and didn't get my morning dose

of Cortisol in (I did wake up early and took my Armour..but the

Cortisol says to take with food). Instead, as I was having

my " brunch " at 11-ish, I took my standard afternoon dose of it (2

pills). I then took the evening dose and that was it for the day.

Is that ok, or do I really need to try and go ahead and get up, take

the Armour, eat, and take the Cortisol? It's just, sometimes, I'm too

tired and want to get in a couple more hours of sleep.

My other question is about my vitamins. I'm having a really hard time

taking them at night b/c my 3rd dose of Cortisol (and last dose of

Cholesterol meds) is done with my dinner. How long do I need to wait

to take my supplements? I'm afraid I don't have enough time between

dinner and bedtime to do it.

Thanks, y'all!!

(Sharon, that made ME feel better about your story of going to New

York, your DH being clueless, and all that. I don't think it would

matter to my inlaws, so I'll try to do your " filtering " thing! :-))---

Marti,

Here's the flip answer: Because he's Dr. Rind and not Broda . :-)

Read the Broda book: Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness

Everything you need to know is in there.
