Guest guest
Hi! I sent my to " regular " Kindergarten, and we were given the crafts not completed by the end of the day, to finish at home. That along with " we cannot guarantee that we could have someone to watch tour daughter with choking issues " , led me to homeschool, which has worked out so beautifully for us. gets one on one attention from me or her sisters, strong emotiomal support, greater sense if family unity and flexibility, no labels or ostracization, time management, and help with daily living activities. She can read beutifully and answer questions orally for comprehension, canwrite, count, add simply (VERY simply!), and is socially confident. We go to park days where she is accepted and loved fully, and we go on quite a few field trips. It has worked for our family and I also brought my other three children home. They are actually more confident and self-assured and outgoing. So, you can always try it and see if it is a good fit for your family. Every family is different in their needs and priorities, so just remember what works for your family may not work for others. There is a charter school in my town that had a spot open up for my five year old . I'm terrified of the public school system and I'm not sure why. It may just be anxiety with just entering a new stage in his life but I'm not sure. Does anyone send their kids to charter schools? If so how do you feel about it? I just want to make the best decision for ! Janell ( 5 years old with pmg) Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

Guest guest
Have to agree with . NOT all public schools are terrible though. Ours is very judgemental. So bad that I have to stay with my son (or sit outside the door). His teacher has a problem with drool so I have to change his bibs, she doesn't " feel she needs to learn basic sign " even though that's how my son communicates. So again, I have to translate what he wants or needs. Just look more into it and see what's best for . -allison Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry® Re: Charter verses public school We don't have a charter school option. Guest guest
My daughter got sent to detention fir not finishing her work. She didn't finish it because she got pulled out for PT. She was slapped by a student IN CLASS and the teacher didn't notice. She didn't feel safe going to her teacher, and when I told ghe principal she shrugged and said " sorry about that. " However, we have lived in 5 different school districts all over the US and this is tge ONLY one I've had a problem with. She came in here on a 504 and we switched back to an IEP they were so bad here. Sent from my iPhone Have to agree with . NOT all public schools are terrible though. Ours is very judgemental. Guest guest
What I don't get is why these people become teachers.... maybe the should read the definition of teacher. ________________________________ To: " polymicrogyria " <polymicrogyria > Sent: Wed, June 9, 2010 11:41:44 AM Subject: Re: Charter verses public school My daughter got sent to detention fir not finishing her work. Guest guest
His class is mixed with special and typical. And yes, she finds drool pretty gross. She was all for working with my son and once the day came, she was a totally different person than the one that I had met. But she treats all of the other children real good. Just mine she is disgusted with. But things will be different next school year. -allison Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry® Re: Charter verses public school We don't have a charter school option. Guest guest
I am shocked by the treatment you all have suffered at the hands of the public school system. My husband is a special ed teacher who loves his job. There are federal requirements that must be met for the care and protection of our kids. It sounds like the schools some of you are dealing with are not in compliance with these requirements and guidelines. I would recommend having an iep and pushing for decent treatment. My grandson, , has bilateral diffuse PMG, and he started pre-school this year in Mesa, AZ. They have a great program, and he loves going to school. He is 3, unable to sit unassisted, and nonverbal. He doesn't have enought control over his arms and hands for sign at this time, but the teacher has been working on communication with the few skills he does have. We have a big issue with funding for education in AZ. We are in 50th place for education funding which makes things very hard for the teachers, but thankfully there are many who care about the kids. Guest guest
I would say there are definitely some compliance issues with your school. There is no way that you should have to sit in the class or outside of it to change his bib. If they enrolled him they HAVE to provide an appropriate education and meet his needs....including the drool. If the teacher is not highly qualified to do this they must provide someone who is or an aide to do so. Any ladies it is not just OH. MI has some issues too. Not all schools are bad in OH just as not all in MI, or elsewhere for that matter, but we are definitely considering the home school route if we end up in court with the school (b/c of their denial of my daughter's service dog). Part of the problem is that more parents need to stand up and let them know that this is NOT acceptable treatment of our children. My daughter's aide got " rough " with her right in front of me and my thought was if she thinks this is acceptable than what is she doing when I am not here? It can be scary when our kids are vulnerable. Best of luck ladies and be strong and fight for what is necessary and right. The law is on our side but sometime we have to show them that they have to enforce it. > > Hi everyone! I'm in a whirlwind of emotions today!
