Guest guest
My son is now in glasses and they have said he is cross-eyed. he is 3 1/2. but my son is very mildly effected by his pmg and syndrome Subject: Vision To: polymicrogyria Date: Sunday, July 26, 2009, 8:03 PM My son Wyatt has just turned 16 months old and he seems to have vision problems. As of 4 months ago his optamologist said that he couldn't tell exactly what's going on with his vision, but that it's obvious that Wyatt is having problems. He said that he hopes that his vision will improve as he grows. He is cross eyed and maybe far sighted. After hearing all of this we started vision therapy and have seen him improve a little. He can sometimes make eye contact and sometimes he gives no response like he doesn't see anything. He's eyes are always cross eyed or they look like he has a lazy eye that alternates. We have noticed that he uses/depends more on his sense of touch and hearing. I was wondering if anyone else is having this happen? Guest guest
My son is 2 1/2 and has vision problems, ocular motor apraxia and has a lazy eye. We first noticed vision problems at 6 months due to not making any type of eye contact. He had vision therapy and it really did not help him. He, like your son, relyed a lot on sound and he still uses his hands touching things without looking at them. We took him first to a pediatric opthomologist and he did not think he needed glasses. We took him to see a neuro-opthomologist (when he was 10 months) and she was able to make diagnosis of what was going on with his eyes and he was also fitted with glasses. He is far sighted and the first time we put glasses on him the expression on his face said it all. It was like he saw the world for the first time. He didn't reach for toys or look any anyone directly until he got his glasses. It made a huge difference! Along with glasses we are doing some treatments to correct his lazy eye and if it does not work he will have surgery to correct it. I would highly encourage you take your son to see a neur-opthomologist or if there isn't one in your area get a second opinion. If he needs glasses, just by getting them for him will help him in so many ways. Guest guest
Hi- My daughter is almost 3.5 with BPP. We have noticed her vision is off but unable to determine exactly how. She has been seen by an opthamologist who said not much. Since she has started preschool she has been evaluated by Perkins School for the Blind here in Boston. She is going to have a functional vision assessment and a low vision evaluation. The specialist does feel she is far sighted. They've put many visual accomodations into her IEP. Her eyes do some really interesting movements. Her depth perception is off as well as her tracking. The hard part is the thought of her keeping glasses on. She hates anything on her head- pulls out her hair clips, won't wear a hat. Anyway, we are on our way this morning to an opthamology appointment to hopefully get some answers. Good Luck , mom to 3 BPP, expecting in 3 weeks!
