Guest guest
Hi Kate, Was that for the real armour or the generic version? I want the real stuff. If it's what I want, I'll switch my prescription over from People's Pharmacy. Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I did look at Costco's web site but I don't know what version of Armour that they carry. I guess I can call them and ask. I guess I want what Forrest (sp?) Labs makes? I will check out that Women's International, too! Thank you Sue > Hi, > I am hoping to find the best source for Armour, Cortef and Estriol > (compounded) in the Austin area. Guest guest
If you go to the CostCo web site and enter " thyroid " in the search for drug prices, you area given the option of " Armour thyroid " (the brand name made by Forest) or " thyroid " (the generic de jour). " I have never had any trouble with patients getting any strength Armour at CostCo. > > Hi, > > I am hoping to find the best source for Armour, Cortef and Estriol > > (compounded) in the Austin area. Guest guest
What does that mean Sue? Are there different versions of Armour? Costco does show the pill images and they look the same as the ones that Jan has in the Photos section. If it's name brand Armour, is it not always Forest Laboratories? Costco does also have a generic, but I think you just have to ask for the name brand and you should get the right one. If you call, let us know what they say. I couldn't find pricing on 'Women's International'. If you find it, please post the link. Thanks... Judy spam: Re: Best Place To Get Prescriptions In Austin....Or ElseWhere? Guest guest
Estriol is only available from compounding pharmacies.maryjohn wrote: I've used Walgreen's, Wal-Mart and Sam's for Armour here in Wisconsin. Walgreen's was the most expensive of the three...but the pharmacist there recommended, unasked, two doctors who prescribe Armour. There's not ever been a problem getting Armour but you might have to take different sized pills to make up your dose. The best prices I've found are at drugstore.com where I get Armour for my dog. Armour is in their top-selling drugs! 100 1-grain tablets runs $16.13. They have all sizes, from 15mg to 300mg tabs. They are more expensive that what you're paying for 120 5 mg tabs of Cortef (over $40) but if you got the 10mg tabs, that would be $50.77 for 120...could split them... I'm not finding anything for estriol there, though. Guest guest
Hi , I'll go back and check on the prices of armour. My dr said he wants me on the real armour, not the generic. He even wrote Brand Medically Necessary on my prescription. Hey ~ do you work in the pharmacy section at Costco? We never go there (hubby hates crowds) but if I can get meds cheaper there,I may be able to get him to change his mind. Maybe I'll leave all of the pharmacy prices laying around and he'll think it's his idea that we go there. <wink> Sue > > If you go to the CostCo web site and enter " thyroid " in the search for > drug prices, you area given the option of " Armour thyroid " (the brand > name made by Forest) or " thyroid " (the generic de jour). Guest guest
-Hi Judy, As far as I know, there's the armour made by Forest Pharmeceuticals and then the generic. I'm not sure who makes that....altho Qualitest comes to mind on that one. All I know is the real armour stinks! When I took armour back in 2001, I don't recall any smell. Do your pills smell? Stinky? Farmish? lol Oh, and if you need prices, you need to call Womean's International to get them. I've heard great things about them. Guest guest
Right, I've got that now. I was confused by the question. I don't get my Armour until next month, but I'll be sure to ask for the name brand at the Doctor's office and the pharmacy and I'll check it (and smell it) before I leave. I think I'll go to Costco, but I like the idea of getting a factory sealed bottle Women's Int Pharmacy. I'm going to check at Costco the next time I'm there to see if they have those 100 pill bottles as well... Guest guest
In Texas, the doc has to hand write "Brand Medically Necessary" or else they can and will give you a generic. I have been known to write that in myself if the doc has forgotten.Judy P wrote: Right, I've got that now. I was confused by the question. Guest guest
I've heard that you lose a lot of thyroid meds if you swallow it but can keep up to 80% of it if you dissolve it under the tongue or between the cheek and gum. I'd like to see some data on that, if anyone has it. I've been doing it that way since I started it. I meant to ask my dr but forgot to do so! Sue > > I will definitely have the doctor write that on the script. Tell me again why you dissolve it between your cheek and gum. Do you get better / faster absorption that way? Guest guest
I do not think that is true. Very little thyroid hormone is absorbed through your mouth tissues. However, that is your best chance of absorbing a small amount of calcitonin and parathyroid hormone, which are peptide hormones and destroyed by stomach acid. Guest guest
It's not true?? Then why do so many say to take it that way???? Is there somewhere I can go to to research that? How do you take your thyroid? Sue > > > > I will definitely have the doctor write that on the script. Tell me > again why you dissolve it between your cheek and gum. Guest guest
As I said to another poster, I break my own list of rules. I always take my Armour with food (usually with my latte) and I sometimes take my second dose too close to my estrogen. Do your own experiment with the sublingual or other in-mouth techniques and see if it makes any difference for you. I really think that anything that hinders absorption can be compensated by taking a larger dose of Armour. There is no one right way to take Armour. mylilsuzyqs wrote: It's not true?? Guest guest
Since I started noticing those labels on the pill bottle that caution people to take thyroid on an empty stomach, I've been taking mine first thing in the morning with nothing but a glass of water. So far that method works pretty well for me. You're right Jan, there is no right way to take Armour, it's just whatever works best for each individual. >> As I said to another poster, I break my own list of rules.
