Guest guest
You need to be working with a doc who knows what he is doing. Have you had your sex hormones tested? Sex hormones are very often involved in your sleep cycle, especially estrogen. Also, be aware that hypothyroidism causes tissue damage, which can take up to two years to heal after you are on your optimal dose of Armour. vickyhebbe wrote: I have a question for anyone to answer. i'm taking 4 grains a day. 3 wheb I wake up at 6:30am and then 1 at 2:30. But I'm sleepy at 11 and on. I've been taking the armour since May 12th. Have only lost 5 pounds. So Iwas wondering maybe I need something else. My last saliva test in Nov. showed that my cortisol was high at noon early evening at at bedtime. Which is at 9:00pm. I get so confused reading all these emails from 3 different groups. Sometimes I think I need iron, then hydrocotisone, or isacort... I don't know. I didn't have any problem raising to 4 grains, so Im lost as to what to do. Mainly I'm still tired in the morning and get sleepy during the day, but at night I become wide awake. And the most important thing to me is my weight. I need only to loose about 15 pounds. So pllease some one tell me what I need to take. Vicky --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. Guest guest
First, if you've lost 5 pounds since May 12th, I don't think you have anything to worry about in the weight loss department. That's about a pound a week, a good rate. I'd like to have lost that much myself. Five weeks or so is not much time to evaluate a thyroid dose. Do you have some recent lab values to post, with ranges? Thyroid, ferritin, cortisol? Do you take any medications or supplements other than Armour? No one here is going to TELL you what to take. If you post some lab results and symptoms, you may get some suggestions as to what you might discuss with your doctor about other things to try. But there are no doctors on the list to prescribe for us. > > I have a question for anyone to answer. i'm taking 4 grains a day. 3 > wheb I wake up at 6:30am and then 1 at 2:30. Guest guest
Vicky, You are very lucky to have lost 5 pounds in that short of a time. I have been on Armour for a year now and have not lost or gained anything. I do need to lose 15-25 pounds. My doctor said 15. I say 25. I do have trouble with Armour increases. I am only on 90mg after a year. I suffer heart palpitations, etc with each increase, so therefore we are going very slow with increases. I am on DHEA for adrenal support. My DHEA and testosterone levels were very low. My progesterone is low and estrogen is high. I used to have to take a nap every single day before being diagnosed with Hashi's. I could not sleep at night or stay asleep. I sleep much better now, wake up more rested and do not need a nap during the day. I would tell your doctor what is going on. Guest guest
I went to Dr. Castro, he's on the corner of Rosedale and 8th St. I won't go back. Who do you go to? I would like to get my levels checked again plus ask for ferritin to be checked. I was getting Bio Identical progestrone and Dhea from my family dr. But she wanted me to come back in and be re-tested before going on with my Rx " s. And my insurance is 500.00 deductable so I have to pay full price for the saliva test, which is 240.00. So I thought that I would just go buy the progestrone and instead of getting DHEA I got 7-keto from the health food store. So I take 40mgs of progestrone a day, 50 mgs of the 7-keto a day. Plus the 4 grains of Armour. I was thinking that maybe I need some iron. Hey if your in the market for a Ford come down to County LIne Ford. I'm the receptionist here. Guest guest
Vicky, I go to Sullivan in Las Calinas. I am on bio-identical Progesterone and DHEA. They have a compounding pharmacy at Tiena Health where his office is located. is a P.A. He deals with peri-menopause, menopause and thyroid issues. He is very thorough. I did not get a saliva test. My blood work showed DHEA and testosterone deficiency. Deborah --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. Guest guest
Courtenay - Did you perhaps mean " topped out " or " maxxed out " instead of " bottomed out " concerning your levels? I was confused. I wondered if you do any computer work, watch tv, read under a strong light, or do work at night where many lights are on. I was thinking that perhaps you are perpetuating your reversed schedule by getting more active late at night, and therefore, reinforcing the reversal. My DH told me that he read where working on the computer late into the evening can keep you awake for several hours after you shut down, since the light, which source is very close to your eyes, keeps hitting the rods in your eyes and your body thinks it's still daytime. DH is helping remind me to quit computer work, cleaning up the kitchen, doing chores, etc. at 9pm, and we start to lower the lights and settle in for the evening. I've stopped taking the laptop to bed, and now just occasionally read a book for awhile under my book light, which is much less bright. I've worked my way back to falling asleep at midnight to 1am. Occasionally I'm up later, but far less than before. I still don't get up until around 10am, but I'm getting more solid sleep, and so I don't feel tired during the day. I do try to rest between daytime activities, just to try to store up energy, but am able to handle a lot more than a few months ago. That's great that you are making headway. I know how frustrating the reversed clock is......sara > > Sometimes sleep issues can still persist when you're > doing everything " right " if your adrenals are not > functioning normally. Guest guest
Hey Sara! It's great to hear from you! I'm so glad you are doing better-- that is truly good news. When I said bottomed out, I meant my levels actually dropped significantly in a bad way. My husband and I had something catastrophic happen two months ago, and the stress really did a number on my thyroid levels, my DHEA, and my iron. My levels are ostensibly back where they were a year ago. I know have known about the light thing for quite some time now, over a year. It's supposed to disrupt your circadian rhythm, a concept I understand in theory only. I've gone through phases where I've shut down all the lights and turned everything off, and I've gone through phases where I've been cavalier about computer use, etc., after midnight, especially if I am trying to catch up from what I missed over the day. Adding to my sleep problem is my spouse's weird work schedule for the last three months. He was a subcontractor for the renovation of the Tower of the Americas. Hence, he came in from work anywhere from eight p.m. to four a.m. in the morning... which woke up the dogs, who then woke up me. I need to be more strict about the light/sleep issues. One of the things I haven't done for years, which sort of helps, is that I don't read anything " heavy " in bed. I try to keep my reading limited to comic strip books and short humorous essays, usually something I've read a billion times. Thanks for the hot tip. I will try to be more vigilant. It would be lovely to be up by 10 a.m. Best-- Courtenay. --- rgrprop wrote: > Courtenay - ..
