hello everyone

Hello everyone. I am a new member in the health care profession.

I've been a PCA (nursing assistant) for one year and I'm in nursing

school now, and I also have a Bachelor degree in Exercise

Physiology. I've got 5 quarters to go! I'm very excited I chose

this profession because I love to help people. However, it's so easy

for me to get burnt out. That's why I started a second job working on

my computer. I love it. I'm now able to pay for my tuition out of

pocket, so I don't have to carry the burden of paying off loans when

I'm finished. Check out http://www.retireforgood.com/?refid=Mh1 to

see what I do.

Anyway, I'm very interested in health and wellness. My goal is to

continue learning about health and related topics. I have my

psychiatric class and clinical next quarter and I'm trying to learn

all I can now and get a head start.

Hi Judy My name is . I live in Lufkn, What part of Texas are you in?

I just started on Armour a week ago. So far I feel nothing, but I know it takes time.

My numbers did not show I had a throid problem but my syptoms did.So my doctor

being a thyroid patient herself put me on 1 grain of thyroid and told me to up it to 2 after

two weeks.

What are my symptoms? I am tired all the time. Some days I can hardly move. I can sleep

good, get out of bed and want to lay in a chair with my eyes closed. Some days It is the afternoon

before I get tired, wanting to go to sleep everytime I sit down. Also My hair has been falling out for about

three years I guess, my body temp is very low and it takes very little for me to feel cold.

By the way my very best friend in school was named Judy so you must be a great person.

Hello Everyone

Thank you so much for welcoming me to this group. My name is Judy andI live in Texas. I have been on Levothyroxine medication for about 35years now. Most of that time I was in Canada taking Eltroxin 100mcg.I've been in the USA for 2 years now but I've still been refilling myprescription with the Canadian brand. I tried Synthroid once, forabout 6 months, but my hair fell out and I just did not feel well atall. I switched back to the Eltroxin as soon as I could. I am stillon it today. I am very interested in people experience with Armourthyroid. It has been mentioned to me many times over the years, butnever by a doctor of course. My doctors simply look at my numbers (orshould I say number since these days they only test for TSH and say mythyroid is fine and not related to any of my other symptoms. I'm alsoknee deep in menopause and that's not helping. When I was firstdiagnosed, my TSH was 62, but now it's in the range of 2-3. Iactually feel that's a little low for me and I think they've changedthe 'ok' chart over time. I used to run around 7 and I think I feltbetter then. So, thanks again, I look forward to reading and learning. Have agreat day!... Judy

Judy,

Armour has given me my life back. I am on four grains and 15 mg of

hydrocortisone. TSH is not the gold standard. Your Free's are a better

marker. Thyroid ties in with so many other things too that can play a

factor in your balance. Ferritin, Sex hormones and cortisol are all big

factors. Often people are having symptoms that they don't " relate " to

their thyroid so they " think " that is ok.

Hi Kate,

Did you start Armour from scratch, or were you substituting for some form of Levothyroxine? I'm just curious because I'm hoping the Armour will do the same for me.

Also, is the hydrocortisone for your adrenals? I also think I have a problem with that. The one thing I've noticed over the last few years is that it is difficult to recover from stress. For example, if my husband and I have an argument, I feel hung-over the next morning and it takes all day to get back to normal even though I'm no longer upset (in my brain).

I'm hoping to get my adrenals tested as well the T3 and T4 once I find the doctor that will prescribe Armour. I used to get a T3 and T4 uptake many, many years ago, do you know what the 'uptake' means. Exactly what tests should I ask for?

4 grains sounds like a lot, do you know how that equates to my .1mg (100mcg) of Levothyroxine?

Thanks for the information. What a great group... Judy

Did Dr. Kittley check your ferritin levels? Ferritin below 50 can give you hypo-like symptoms.l & jpickle wrote: Hi Judy My name is . I live in Lufkn, What part of Texas are you in? I just started on Armour a week ago. So far

Did you check our list of docs? Dr. Gonino in Rowlett takes most insurance (no Cigna), as does Dr. Exstrum in Plano. Dr. Launius in ville takes no insurance at all, but has very reasonable fees. Judy P wrote: Hi . I'm in Plano. I've just been here a couple of weeks, but I also

lived here half of last year. I've been from WA state, to TX, to MD and back to TX in just under a year, but I'm all settled now and I think we'll be here for a while. I am having the same problem with fatigue. I'm just tired and unmotivated all of the time, but my other hypo symptoms such as dry skin, constipation, hair loss and feeling cold are not present at all. I definitely have the foggy brain. I'm unsuccessfully working on calming my hot flashes, so feeling cold these days is not much of an issue. I'll tell you though, all those winters spent in Canada were not a treat for me at all. I feel so lazy all of the time and then I have the guilt from that. That's how I described it to the first doctor when I was 18 years old. I said to him "Ok, so I'm a lazy girl, I'll

give you that, but no one in the world could possibly be as lazy as I feel". That's when he tested my thyroid and the adventure began. I also really feel like I'm living outside of myself all of the time. People will say that an experience was 'surreal' and I think 'my whole life is surreal', that's just how I feel most of the time. Try explaining that to a medical doctor LOL. I was losing my hair for the time that I was on Synthroid, but I don't have that symptom with the Eltroxin. They're both Levothyroxine, but there seems to be a difference for me. Soon, I won't be able to get it any more and I really want to try the Armour. There are a few doctors in the

area that will prescribe it, but only one is on my insurance list. I'll call the others to double check that before I travel the 25 miles. Although I am tired all of the time, I was exactly where you are about 3 years ago. I couldn't sit down without falling asleep and I could barely get myself out of bed. I didn't go anywhere but work, I was just exhausted. I got no help from the doctor who sent me to a sleep clinic that ruled out sleep apnea and that was that. They witnessed me waking up every hour on the hour all night long, but I didn't have apnea and that was their only concern. What a waste of time and money. The odd thing was that I would perk up in the

evening and have all of my energy when it was finally time to just sit and relax. I started reading about adrenal fatigue and was thrilled to finally see a comprehensive list of all of the symptoms that I had been complaining about. My doctor didn't believe in adrenal fatigue and tried to put me on anti-depressants. I went to the health food store and asked for something with adrenal support. They gave me some maca root capsules and that helped a lot. I'm still tired, but not debilitating so as I was back then. It also fixed my morning anxiety feelings which was actually the worst part. My TSH has been stable for at least a decade now, but I haven't had T3 or T4 tested in ages. I try to get them tested each time, but my doctors will only order the TSH. I think it's a great test, but I

only started having it about 12-15 years ago, before that they always did the T3 T4 Uptake tests. It's funny that you had a friend named Judy. It's one of those names that sounds quite common, but you never really run into many. I think I've met 3 in my lifetime and one of those was my namesake... Please reread what Jan said, anemia will show as low ferritin long before

it shows on a CBC panel. Your body goes to the iron stores first. If your

doctor didn't test your ferritin ask for it. Your ferritin needs to be

above 70. If not you can have fatigue, heart palps etc. Read the link Jan

sent, it's really good.

, are you feeling anything yet? I know it's just been 2 weeks now, but I was wondering if the Armour is kicking in yet. I had a day like yours yesterday. I have never felt so tired in my life. I yawned all day long and I could barely move. When I walked anywhere, it felt like I had 10lb weights on my feet. I took a 2.5 hour nap in the afternoon and then I was awake most of the night. I wasn't at all restless, just awake. I hope you're feeling better soon... Judy

Not really. I drug myself out of bed to get myself and my grandaughter ready for church this morning. I am always sleepy on Sunday though because I stay up to late. Partly habit, partly because my husband works night. I put the baby to sleep and then get up for a little time to myself. I like to read my motivational books then and sometimes watch a little t.v. Bad thing is I often find myself snacking. and I have put on some weight. My clothes are getting tight and I had worked so hard to lose that weight.

I hope we will both soon feel better. IM me sometime

Welcome, Gabby.

Regarding your water, lack of desire. That is very common.

Personally, I drank flat ginger ale and weak Countrytime lemonade for

the first couple months. You may find your tastes change

drastically. For example, I normally love lots of ice in my

beverages, but it was years before I got over the post-op aversion to

ice. The important thing is to drink something, perferably a

weakened beverage so that you get some free water.

Regarding exercise, currently I am giving my patients the

recommendation that they obtain 150 minutes per week of brisk

walking. Anything else is extra. Of course, my patients are

exercise freaks and have to be held back from injuring themselves!

lol Personally, I get all of my exercise by parking far from doors

and by parking way far from the gate at work and also, by not taking

the taxi at work. Yes, at my job there are golf cart " taxies " that

haul us from the front to the back. If I start taking them, I

rebound.

Hi Gabby;

My experience has been that after each of my surgeries all I wanted was ice

cold things. Broth/soup right from the refrigerator or even slightly frozen

was marvelous. It was so soothing. Also when I started eating solid food, I

wanted it cold, too. Anything that was remotely warm would make me ill -

whether it was physical or psychological, I'm not sure, but even the thought

of warm food make me want to vomit.

Now that I'm 4 years out (but still recovering from surgery) I find that

craving for ice cold food hasn't left.

Alright here Jo Im glad u put this all in writting.

True about after going thru with RNY surgery they let me go home

without follow up maintains but to only remove the drainage tubes.I

had never had reminders of watso ever I was the one who had to call

them for a referral for lab work every year. I was like on my own

whenever I had to go thru medications since my body poorly absorbed

them or tht it may hurt my abdomin area.It was fustrating to adapt to

all these changes on my own.Thanxs
