Can I meet you in person?

HELLO, JO:

After initially introducing myself to this group back in early April, I have

been a “lurker” on this site. It seems that most of you personally know

each other, and I live in Washington D.C., so you are names on the screen to

me only. I had DS surgery with Dr. K. on November 29 (six months ago),

and I have lost 90 lbs, and nearly 10 clothing sizes. I haven’t felt I have

had that much to contribute, but I’ve learned a lot from listening in.

I just had blood work done, though, and my protein is alarmingly low. My

oldest daughter (of four kids) is an MD, so she also is monitoring (from

Baltimore) my blood work. I went over it with Dee today on the phone, and

with my daughter.

DEE: I went to GNC and bought the vanilla Isopure, and blended it tonight

with ½ banana and water. I think I’m going to be fine with the taste of it

– thanks for the hint.

Anyway, I have my six-month checkup with Dr. K. on June 20, in the

afternoon. I land in Bakersfield at 1:08 am on the 20th. I plan to get

some sleep after that red-eye flight, but would LOVE to meet you. I know

three other women (and a teen girl) who have had the surgery by Dr. K., but

Dee recommends that I speak to you in person and pick your brain about

long-term taking care of myself.

I know I’m low on protein consumption because my ankles are swollen by the

evening each day. I’ve vowed to both Dee and my daughter that I will do

better with both protein, and calcium.

I’m giving you below my home and cell phone numbers, and my e-mail address.

I would love to spend a little time with you. My friends in Paso Robles who

originally connected me up with Dr. K., and who accompanied me to and took

care of me after the surgery, have been great, but since you are (six?)

years out, I’m sure I can learn from you, too.

I don’t have a flight out of Bakersfield – I will be driving to Oregon in a

rental car, so my time in Bakersfield is my own. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO MEET

YOU!

Thanks.

Sonja,

We get together frequently and strive to meet folks from out of town.

That's why we seem to know each other, we DO know each other! More of

us would be glad of an excuse to gather if you are willing! Any excuse

for a party.

OF COURSE I would love to meet even more of you!

We have time to talk between now and the 20th, but whatever you, and Jo, and

other Californians come up with for a special support meeting with an

out-of-towner would be greatly appreciated!

Sonja S.

OK, I’m not sure. If I leave Paso Robles the morning of June 22, do I pass

through Bakersfield again on my way to Eastern Oregon?

I still haven’t charted out all this driving I’m going to be doing.

Sonja,

(and Jo and all the rest of you local types),

and I are planning on riding into Bakersfield on either the 21st or

22nd of June. Most likely the 22nd due to the distance.

We are starting our motorcycle trip from here in San Diego on the morning of

the 21st. Planning on stopping by to see my mother that day in San

Valley. If I am up to another few hours on the bike, we will continue to my

Dad's in Bakersfield and spend the night there. Otherwise, if I am not up

to more riding, we will stay at my mom's overnight the 21st and come through

Bakersfield on the 22nd, stopping to visit my Dad.

It would be great to see some of you! If you are getting together on the

22nd, let me know?!

We are aiming to ride all the way up to Sacramento to visit his big sister.

I have never been there, and never gone by motorcycle on a long trip, so it

should be a real adventure all around!

Sonja,

No matter what, unless you backtrack, you won't go near Bakersfield leaving

from Paso Robles. It depends on what part of eastern Oregon you're going

to. That determines the best route.

However, as a begining, the shortest time would mean going north on Hwy

101, then I680 in San to I80 in Fairfield. If you're going to

southeastern Oregon, continue east on I80 to Reno, then take Hwy 395 north.

If you;re going to east central or northeast Oregon, take I505 north in

Vacaville to I5. Near Mount Shasta there is a turnoff for Klamath Falls,

take that highway and it takes you up through Redmond.

Sorry, we don;t have a weather forecast that far out, or I'd give you that

info too. :-))

Sorry, I'll be out of town (Cabo Cruise) the 21st-25th. I hope you

enjoy your trip. I hope your back enjoys the trip!

Have fun and I hope to see you the next time you're in the area.

Hugs

Hi, Jim:

My friends in Paso Robles tell me that there is a support meeting there the

evening of the 21st. We are all planning on attending. Maybe we’ll see you

there?

And, I’m driving from Paso Robles to the town of Day, Oregon. That’s

about ¾ of the way across the state of Oregon, on the eastern side.

I’ll have this all mapped out before I leave.

P.S. I went shopping yesterday – had to – no clothes. It was weird

shopping in the REGULAR clothing department. AND I’ve just lost another

three pounds, so didn’t dare buy too much right now.

Sonja,

if you are in Paso Robles, you are north of Bakersfield -- and about 90

miles west, too.

A few of us are in the Paso Robles area if you'd like to meet us.

Jim
