TLP has been extremely helpful for my son. He started using the program

around age 9 or 10 and saw an obvious increase in auditory processing and drop

in

sound sensativity. He repeats it every few months.

We used Lori Riggs, one of the program's developers, as our consultant. I'd

highly recommend her. It is a very simple program that doesn't need extensive

monitoring but she'd be the best to consult if any problems occur. I'm

pretty sure she still offers consulting services and could do it over the phone.

She's in Texas. If you can't find her number at the website, let me know and

I'll dig it up for you.

Hi Gaylen,

I've seen your post over the last few months and wondered if you or anyone you

may know has had any experience with PACE, Brain Gym or Bellefonds. I have been

reading up on all three of the cognitive therapies and realize that each of the

therapies are person specific. I have seen you write about TLP and wondered if

you had tried any of the others. I live in Texas and have the opportunity to

attend a training session on the Bellefsonds method of cognitive retraining and

wondered if I should look more closely at other therapies. The Bellefonds is

currently being used in Ft. Worth, TX by two schools and is a two year

commitment. I am at the point where it's all worth a try. I have the two boys

that are nids, the younger to a lesser degree, so whatever I do, it is times

two. I appreciate your response or anyone elses that may know about these

things.

Thanks Dawn in TX

We've used Brain Gym off and on throughout the years. Early on, it was

particularly helpful in establishing right/left brain connection and in helping

him

to cross the midline plus in getting the right side of his body to work. We

never used a certified trainer for it though but opted to get the info from a

weekend seminar and their curriculum books.

I don't really know anything about PACE or Bellefonds, but Bellefonds does

sounds interesting. Do you know if it is similar to what NACD does? or are

they the people who train kids while they're standing on a balance beam? Will

the training seminar you mentioned be in Fort Worth? Is it costly? If it's

open to others and not terribly costly, I might be interested in attending as

well.

Hi Gaylen, the training for bellefonds will be in Grand Prarie, TX, which I

consider Fort Worth, the training, work sheet, lodging, and all the equipment

needed to complete the treatment with your child is $2600.00 and is a 1 1/2-2

year commitment. I have been waiting for a center to open in Houston and was

happy to hear they where beginning a parents as practitioners training. My

sister's son actually attends one of the schools in Fort Worth where this is a

pilot, the principal states that he is cautiously optimistic, but thus far has

seen some really good things. She mentioned the program to me two years ago.

At the time we were doing Fast Forward. We normally do not get into things

quickly because of over burdening my son and it takes time to do all of the

research. I do not know if one of the exercises consist of training while on a

balance beam, however there is a website and toll free numbers. I have thus far

spoken to Jim Skyler (MS) and his office offered me families

who had done the program. The families who had the developmental issues spoke

about there children making great advances while the families who had children

with smaller deficits spoke of it being good but anything you do consistently

for two years is going to reap some benefits. The date on the first training is

next weekend Feb 14 and 15, they made the comment that my mother could come with

me but could not participate in the hands on, she is interested in helping us

but didn't see as though she needed the equipment. They have payment plans.

They have another one scheduled for May 04. I am planning on going in May, I

think it makes a great deal of sense and would help my son. Pace actually is

more expensive and isn't encouraged for use with children under the age of 8

years. The toll free number for 866-340-3574, ext 313(Jim Skylar). His

organization is called the Institute for Learning Abilities. Let me know if you

should come across anymore information as I have been

reading for quite some time and it seems as though it has benefitted many

children. Thank you for your experience with Brain Gym as it sounds very

interesting as well. I need to become more compact in my writing sorry for the

length.
