I never code lower than 99213 for a sick visit. There are more than enough systems

to consider for a sick child with OM, and if you are giving a prescription along

with advise for comfort it's a 99213, at least.TimOn Mon, April 21, 2008 9:47 pm EDT, Chirag Patel

For those of you that see pediatrics,

you code 99212 for these conditions? or higher? Many times, there is an

accompanying chronic issue I address to make sure it's stable (allergic rhinitis,

asthma, etc), but other times not. The reason I ask is that in Illinois Medicaid,

the reimbursement difference is close to 100% between these two codes-not sure why

such a large discrepancy.

I usually code a 3 or 4 for otitis depending on how sick the child is. Larry Lindeman MDRoscoe Village Family Medicine2255 W.
