Guest guest
Hi I have been taking MS Contin now for 8 months and I have not read anything to date that suggest that it causes liver damage. I might be wrong because I know that so many studies come up with so many different views. I would also appreciate any information that anyone may have on the subject. Be Well !!! Judy: I was recently taken off as many meds as possible that metabolize through the liver as all my liver function tests were way out of range. I had a new lab work-up done last week and, HOORAY, all LFTs but the GGT were within normal range and the GGT went from over 1200 down to 347. The docs think the cause of the liver problems was the acetaminophen based meds. I hope you find a doc who is well-trained in pain meds as well as their affect on your liver function. I know you are devastated about the Hep C infection and your upcoming treatment, but thank goodness there is now some treatment for that. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. {{{And Pain-free Wishes}}} Carol " In the little decisions of life, use your mind; in the big decisions, use your heart " [author unknown]

Hi , I am not a medical professional but from what I have read it is the tylenol or acetaminophen in medications that cause liver damage when used over long periods of time. This is why if you need pain meds for long term use it is better to take MScontin or Oxycontin because they have no tylenol/acetaminophen in them. My pain management doctor also told me this and I have great faith in him. You might try doing a search on tylenol and see what you come up with as far as liver damage...just a thought.
