Hi, My hubby spoke to a friend he used to work for and he told my hubby that he had prostate cancer but it was treatable since they found it early enough. I told my hubby he needed to get in and get a prostate exam and a complete physical and thyroid tests, too. Can anyone recommend a good dr for him to go to? He has United Healthcare. I've seen info on Dr Ted but was wondering if anyone has gone to him. He used to go to Dr Nash over at Seton but I'll never let him go back to him since I found out thru him that he only goes by the TSH test for thyroid. IDIOT! Guest guest
Whoever he goes to, both a PSA (lab test) and a digital rectal exam or the prostate should be done. Most men are big babies when it comes to the rectal. Both have to be done in order for good screening. It is just like breast cancer screening. We need both a mammogram plus an actual physical exam of the breasts. Sometimes abnormalities can be felt that do not show up on mammogram and visa versa. Guest guest
Thanks for that info. I looked to see if my husband's insurance covered him going to Dr Ted . It wasn't. He has United Healthcare. We're in Austin so hopefully I can find one. I hated Dr Nash. He was nice but liked that prescription pad a wee bit too much to my liking. Guest guest
Can't resist a good laugh and poke..So if we use the logicthat a man needing a prostate exam prefers a man, do all women prefer women gynocologists???? ¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤¤ø,¸¸,ø¤¤ Don't Take Life Seriously. Guest guest
I think I'd prefer a female gynocologist altho all of my kids were delivered by male drs.....well, two out of the three were. Our second daughter came 6 weeks early on Father's Day so all of the maternity floor was like a ghost town and my hubby and a nurse delivered her. <my dr was on vacation> She was healthy and was able to come home 3 days later. Guest guest
I quit using male doctors when my delivering male gynosaid to me while he was stitching me up (episiotomy)"This won't hurt so stop worrying and jumping"..ticked me off royally.I should have told him to trade places and let me try it out on him!But I was young and stupid and just lay there in pain..But I never saw another male gyno..figure that when they can tell me they have been there, done that, then they can be my gyno doctor! LOL I have yet to figure out how a male doctor can tell me how my body should feel - like he has any ideaof what a woman goes through...But that is justmy outlook when it comes to gyno stuff! Guest guest
That would have made me mad, too. My last pelvic exam I had Dr do it. She had a hard time doing it. I was just glad to get out of there. ouchy. Guest guest
When my episiotomy was being stitched up, I was shaking from the hormone changes. My doctor kept telling me patiently "you have got to hold still". I was thinking "yeah, like I really want to be stitched up wrong...especially there". One of my most favorite come backs to a doctor was from a very quick witted friend. The doctor told her, "we need a colonoscopy". Her reply "who goes first? You or me?".
