Guest guest
Hi Terry...welcome to our little corner of the world. In a couple months I'll be 5 years post-op. I'm doing well. Like Marta I've gained back some weight...10 lbs I NEEDed to regain with 10 pounds I didn't really care to see again..lol. No major issues/problems. If your friend is looking into Dr. K as a possibility, I can honestly say that during the past 5 years I have been very satisfied with the office and Dr. K. Who was your Out of Country Doctor? Tell us about your experience. How does your follow-up program work? It sounds like your doing Fabulously so far! Congrats. Hugs Jo

It sounds like > your doing > Fabulously so far! Congrats. Hi Jo and all, What a friendly and useful group this is! Thank you for letting me join you. My Brazilian doctor was Dr. Antelmo Sasso Fin. He has done over 400 lap DS surgeries (and I forget, 1000 or so other weight loss surgeries). My surgery went so well that it's almost unbelievable. I could have left the hospital after one night, but they hadn't started me on anything by mouth by then, so Dr. Antelmo kept me the second night. My five little lap holes are really tiny--one is so small that I wouldn't even know it was there if I didn't know where to look. I could not be happier with my surgeon. Follow-up care is of course more problematic. My primary care physician takes any labs I ask him to and he assesses my results. I also send copies of my labs to Dr. Antelmo in Brazil for his feedback. Dr. Antelmo speaks English and loves to talk to his patients by phone. I've only spoken to him once on the phone, but I will call him in the future. Had my insurance covered the DS, I would have preferred to have my surgery here in the states. Now that I have been to Brazil, I'm not even sure that's true any more. The personalized care was really nice. What a difference it makes to be in a place with no shortage of nurses. The biggest difference in the nurses there is that they wore high heels on the job! Oh yes, even in surgery or while doing heavy lifting (me), the nurses never relinquished their sexiness. You could tell the American women immediately because we all had on our comfy travel shoes (flats, Teva sandals and such); all the Brazilian women wore heels or delicate sandals. I think our shoes mystified them. I'm 7.5 months out from surgery and I have lost about 75 pounds, which definitely makes me a fairly slow loser. However, my co-workers think I look like I am losing quickly. The change really is dramatic, I must admit. Warmest regards, Terry in NC Switched by Dr. Antelmo 26 April 2006 ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Yahoo! Guest guest
Terry, I just ordered my own Christmas present! I ordered a pair of ankle boots, a pair of sexy, red slide-on heels, and a new purse. I wore such ugly shoes when I was big! I literally shuddered to remember while shopping for new shoes! Averaging ten pounds per month is normal for a DS patient. Whatever you lost at six months, you might expect to lose double that amount. I regained weight, but it is more controllable. I am currently about thirteen pounds above where I want to be, but I am not particularly disturbed by my situation, trust me! lol I feel good and able to wear sexy heels. Marta just say " NO! " to four inches! > The biggest difference in the nurses there is that they > wore high heels on the job! ... I think our shoes > mystified them.
