Guest guest
Vitamin A is supposed to be kept from light during collection, storage and transport. http://205.158.190.166/etd/client/display.php? clientid=9090 & ordercode=VIT%20A & and= & andand= I am thinking I might make a list now that I have found this site... Guest guest
Vitamin E is supposed to be kept from light too: http://205.158.190.166/etd/client/display.php? clientid=9090 & ordercode=VITAE & and= & andand=
Guest guest
Hey Kim I had all my yearly labs done last week in Australia. I went to the 'head office' collection room, rather than a suburban one because I thought they would know best. They took a total of 11 vials and 1 urine sample. They put foil around 3 of the vials (I assume to block light) and they put at least one on ice. They made sure I had fasted too. Hope this helps Kristy
Guest guest
Well, none of the tubes Ron used was wrapped, I think. I did mention that to him, but I don't remember his reply, just that it satisfied me at the time. I had to have my labs drawn THREE times one year in my own clinic, so I know how you feel. Anyway, If you still have concerns, as I said, you should let the lab station know ahead of time so they are ready for you. Of course, since I had my labs drawn in Delano this time, the staff was very familiar with the labs ordered by Dr.K. Guest guest
Kym, Are you having Vit. E checked? Who ordered that? Guest guest
Well, don't worry if you don't see them wrap the tubes, they may do it out of your sight. I went to the restroom to give urine as soon as he was done drawing my blood. I think that is when he wrapped it. Regarding fasting: I never fast for my labs. Mine are not ordered that way. Ordinarily we docs like lipid panels to be done fasting, as well as glucose and a few other tests, but I asked once if mine needed to be fasting and was told no. Thank Goodness, because it is hard for me to do fasting labs! Busy, busy, busy. That is good advice, go to a large lab, they tend to have all the stuff. Before I went to LabCorp in Delano, I called the main office in BFL to ask about my labs and was happy to find out that I could get them done in the smaller office is Delano since it was more convenient for me. Guest guest
Hey Marta, I dont know if I had Vit E or not. I just was " paging through " the PACLAB vitamins online. Since we don't absorb ADEK I was looking at those This was a new PCP, so I had no " experience " with this office. My Old PCP always sent me to the hospital to get the bloodwork done since she didnt want her staff to hassle with it. I suggested that to the doctor, but this one seemed almost " insulted " that I thought her stuff would screw it up. When I mentioned some needed special handling... she was like exasperated with me and said " We know! Our girls are very good " . I hate breaking in a new doctor. Anyway... I wonder what light does to Vit. A exactly. And how the heck would the lab know how long it was exposed to light? I think too much
Guest guest
I imagine it breaks it down. That is why I am especially not worried since mine was dead center of normal. If it broke down a tiny bit before he put the foil on it that just means that it was a tiny bit higher before. Oh, the girls have to go to the book and look up the tube and handling of stuff they don't usually draw. Don't you get your labs based on what Dr.K wants you to have done? That is what I use. And yes, you are thinking too much! lol Why worry, be happy! You should be able to get your labs drawn whereever you want. It only matters if your insurance wont' pay for htem to be done at the hospital. Marta ps did you read that I didn't even have a bruise after my draw? > I hate breaking in a new doctor. > > Anyway...
