I've had about a dozen e-mails about the Marta post. I did not mean

anything

remotely sexual. It is a phrase from my childhood. Whenever we children

would say " we, " the reply would be, " Oh, you have a mouse in your pocket? "

it was a way to remind us not to use the royal " we. "

I apologize to those whom I inadvertently offended by the post.

Well, I have not talked to Marta about this, but from her replies, my

assumption is that she did not take offense to it.

The phrase " a mouse in your pocket " is a very old one, and my extremely

religious upbringing, it always meant that someone was using a " we " word

instead of singular.

If we were going to limit our language so there would be no sexual

connotations, well, I guess we'll have to quit being " friends " and just be

surgery correspondents.

Jim... A different way to look at it. I DO have a mouse in my pocket... but

HE isn't nearly in my pocket enough!

oh please.............this is crazy. We should all be able to joke around with

each other. If the posts bug you, dont read them. But dont ruin it for everyone

Hey Jim,

That is a favorite saying in our house! So much so, that when Mike

and I were first together (20 years ago this year) I bought him a

little wooden mouse (key chain) to keep in his pocket. That way he

could say,

" As a matter of fact, I do have a mouse in my pocket " . lol When the

boys were growing up they use to get a big " kick " out of Mike saying that.

Totally understanding the royal " we " .
