Guest guest
Tom, I bought a new desktop last month, with Vista (XP was not an option unfortunately), and Alteer works ok on it. Just a few issues with logging in and closing Alteer on that machine, and some different icons/numbers showing up on menus, but otherwise ok. A. I bought a quad-processor 2.6 with 4GB memory last December. Vista runs great. Some of my peripherals? Useless. My $200 portable scanner is unsupported. Period. High end graphics? Good luck. Does an EMR need graphics? No. Our practice runs on 512MB Pentium 2.4 Ghz. Shall I spend $200 per PC for memory upgrade? No. My practice vendor Alteer, does not support Vista, for 2 years now since vista Beta? Terrible. Silly Alteer. Vista is awesome. But my advice? Buy a macintosh if you can, windows only if you must. Much advice on this forum using linux. Too much time for non-geek to set up linux. Buy your new system with Vista installed, you will have little problems. Upgrade to Vista, HA! Just say no. Laptops? JUST SAY NO! If you can avoid them, do not use them. I have gone through 5 laptops in as many years. They simply wear out and break. Check out the Asus linux laptop if you need to carry something in the exam room with you… -tom From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Malia, MD Sent: Sunday, July 13, 2008 12:04 PM To: Subject: XP vs Vista etc I'm considering new laptops as 3-yr warranty for my Toshiba Tecra is winding down. I'm not up-to-date on pros/cons for the systems available. So I'd love to get feedback from the group's many experts. I've heard so many negative things about Vista, but I really don't understand what the details of the problems are. Looking through the Toshiba laptops online (I'm really considering getting another Tecra model), I see that most all of them have the Vista Business system installed. I could customize so the XP system is installed and ready to go ($50 option). I wonder if the Vista problems have been ironed out, or are there still a lot of problems to watch out for. I wonder if getting the Vista, but having the XP system ready to go makes more sense. Thoughts? Thanks for any help. Tim
