Guest guest
Sharon, My need for Flagyl started after broad spectrum antibiotic after a surgery. Ever since, with antibiotics I get hit again. The flagyl gets rid of the explosive (and sometimes uncontrollable) bowel movements as well as the horrific gas pretty quick. At least it knocks it down by about half, then you have to go through the tapering dose to get rid of it completely. The broad spectrum antibiotic that they give you after surgery can mess up the balance in the intestines, causing a collostrum deficil problem (probably not spelled right). This basically becomes colitis. Your bowels turn into Mt St Helens and anything that comes out of it destroys the ozone layer. Yes, folks, I am personally responsible for global warming! I have never had the tinny taste. It is, however, a FOUL tasting med that you do not want to put in your mouth before putting a liquid in first. The taste makes you want to hurl. Actually using has never done it to me. I either take a swig of something (milk, juice or whatever) then toss in the pill and swallow it all together. OR, I roll it in a little soft butter OR I put it in a spoon of yogurt. I have tried the yogurt. It helps, but doesn't quite get it. It is good as a maintenance sort of thing. After 4 surgeries (for various issues) in an 18 month period, and subsequently having this problem come up every time I now find that every time I get stressed out I get colitis. Sucks, for sure. I am just finishing a round of it.... a 3 month round. Yuck. It is possible that the DS makes our GI system more sensitive. But, I know a couple people who have colitis either from antibiotics/c-diff or from stress that have never had any kind of surgery. Whatever! You will be fine. Oh, and it does make your pee more yellow! That is normal for when you are taking flagyl. The alcohol is definitely a no-no INCLUDING Nyquil cough syrup. Not that I have actually tried it, but every time I pick it up the pharmacist gives me a stern warning that includes cough syrup as a potential problem. When I have been sick and needed something I just take the capsules. Love ya lady! in OR aka The Flagyl Goddess

Take the flagyl. You'll Be glad you did! It will work and you'll wonder why you never tried this before now. Take it with butter. This trick Jo and told me. It tastes NASTY!. But it stopped my chronic diarrhea toot sweet. My surgeon here warned me Not even a drop of alcohol with flagyl but I forgot and drank a whicky sour on my cruise, no ill effects but I wouldn't push my luck. Let me know how it works. I wonder if Cipro is similar in nature because I just finished a round of it for a UTI and I have actually been constipated...Scarey huh? First time since my Revision..LOL! I have back problems and the effort to push kind of made my back flare up. Anyway Do as the good doc says and follow instructions. Guest guest
Sharon I haven't taken Flagyl...but one of the biggest ds chuckle moments was when from OR was visiting with her hubby. She was on Flagyl and telling how horrible the taste was. Hubby didn't think it could be all that bad, so she gave him one and said " take it " . He did...boy was his face funny as he was trying to deny how bad it was...lol...he finally " hollered Uncle " and started trying to eat/drink something to get rid of the taste...lol. Remember that ..chuckle, chuckle. Anyhow...COAT that darn pill with something before you put it in your mouth. dipping in butter works, yogurt, peanut butter...most anything that will stick to the pill and you can swallow it without allowing the actual pill to touch your mouth. Don't drink alcohol and I think in a couple days your going to be in love with Flagyl. Hugs Jo
Guest guest
Flagyl is good... maybe even a God send. However, it is the most ghastly tasting medicine I have ever taken. Be sure to coat it with butter, yogurt... something to make it slide down. Avoid the taste at all costs! Elle Flagyl Okay, who has taken this drug, and what were the results. Since my last surgery I have had numerous bowell movements daily. At 2 weeks out Dr Z suggested flagyl. I opted for yogurt. Well, here I am 6 weeks out and still going anywhere from 6-12 times a day. This is not helping my healing!!!! So I called Dr Z today and he ordered me on flagyl for two weeks. I wasnt worried until the pharmicist said, no alcohol - or it will make you sick. Be sure to eat something or take with milk - or it will make you sick. And it will give you a metalic taste in your mouth...or (you guessed it) make you sick. What is the consensus here? Did it make you sick? Did it cure your diareah? Did you get the tinny taste? and if so what made it go away? Did it help with the uncontrollable gas? I wont be starting it until tomorrow as I ordered a pizza tonite, and I have a beer with my name on it in the fridge, but would appreciate any input. thanks, Still, even after 6 weeks, sitting easy in Onyx Or otherwise known as Sharon....lol
Guest guest
Well, it either eliminates much of stool odor, or it causes anosmia. No wonder youse guys are so hooked on the stuff! Not worth the diarrhea I got while on it, though. That really ruins my social life. Marta
