If any of you have little boys who have trouble with motor skills

(especially snaps and buttons), I just wanted to post that Gap Kids has the

BEST fasteners on their pants... instead of a snap or button above the fly

there is a heavy duty skirt hook (like a giant hook and eye). I just always

bought my older son elastic waist pants until he could " do " the regular

fasteners (and that wasn't until 6th grade), but the Gap pants are a breeze

for my 6 year old... he doesn't have the strength in his hands to do snaps

or buttons.

Most of you may have already discovered the Gap pants trick, but we live in

a " Gap deprived " area so it took me 'til this year to find them. My little

guy LOVES being able to have " big boy " pants.

Does anywhere else use these cool fasteners that any of you know of?

Wow, Caroline, THANK YOU for the GapKids pants info! I had no idea

they used that style of fastener. My son is 8 and still has trouble

with snaps and buttons. It's getting harder and harder to find

elastic waistbands in big-boy sizes. Let's hope they keep making

their pants that way! :)

Donna,

Were you able to find some? Oh, I hope so! I started wondering how high up

in sizes those fasteners go... guess I'll have to check that out on the next

trip (an hour away). I wish they were on every pair! I know Gap is

expensive but I seem to have pretty good luck on the clearance rack ;)

When my son had difficulty snapping and buttoning, I had the best luck

finding elastic waistband pants at Walmart. Now that he's wearing jeans, but

still

taller than he is wide, I've found some good adjustable waistband jeans also

at Walmart.

Target has some pants (both the elastic and the adjustable waist) as well.

Not sure if they have jeans, but I have bought other styles, especially

adjustable khaki " church pants " there repeatedly for my oldest. Penney's

has some of the adjustable waist pants, too.

I have also heard of looping a rubber band (the non-pull elastic kind)

through the button hole, then they can slip the loop over the button so they

can wear any type of pants. My little guy is able to just pull his pants up

(they button & zip in the front; elastic in the back), so we haven't tried

this yet.

I forgot to mention that Walmart often sells elastic pants up to size

12/14

at least.

Hi Caroline,

I haven't looked just yet, but I'll let you know...I'm not even sure

if our local mall has a Gap and/or BabyGap, to tell you the truth. I

never shop in small boutiques...I'm a " Wal-Mart/Target " mom, with

occasional forays into Ross and T.J. Maxx. :)

FYI...My son just got size 7 Wrangler jeans from Walmart for Christmas from his

great grandmother. They have the adjustable elastic on the inside.

While I was at Walmart this week buying new jeans for my kiddo (a regular

trip these days because he is FINALLY gaining weight and growing at a rapid

rate), I saw that their elastic pants went up to size 12 and their adjustable

waist

jeans with snaps went up to size 16/18.
