Pat,

I know exactly what you mean. But when you mentioned about having nightmares

when you don't take the Ambien, I forgot to talk about that. I'm the same way.

When I don't take it, I have the worst nightmares. Not to mention of course that

I can't sleep. But the nightmares are the main thing. I no longer do stupid

stuff when I take it, unless of course I take a muscle relaxer or something as

well. Anyhow, I don't know what to say about the nightmares except I'm sorry and

it does the same thing to me.

I have been taking it for over a year now,it puts me in

a sleep where I have no dreams,bad ones any ways...I just

don't like not being in control of my self...the first

time my grandaughter came into my room and ask me to put

eyedrops in her eyes...I told her I couldn't get up,but

showed her how to do it herself as I did it on myself...

I don't remember it at all....I just don't want to do

something that would harm my grandkidsI am depressed as

it is,,,God knows I don't need to be more depressed..lol

I laughed the first time I heard this could happen taking

it,,,one of Ruthies friends had taken some and for some

unknow reason got in her car,,ended up wrecking it and

walking for miles,,,when they finally found her she

couldn't tell them why she was in the car...I know for

a fact that it does happen now...

I have given Ambien for years at the hospital. It is a damned good drug

but you have to be able to (as they say on tv) devote at least 8 hrs to

sleep. And they mean 8 hrs. If you try to stay awake of fight it, you have a

tendency to get in an altered mental state. I remember once when A 60YO man

took

it after knee surgery, he got up and in a 30 minute period rearranged his

whole room and barricaded his hospital room door. Didn't remember a thing the

next day but complained that his knee was sore...LOL.

I have learned to go straight to sleep after taking it. I get my points

emails and a few weeks ago was reading emails online after taking it waiting

for the med to work. I do remember reading about the gevalia coffeemaker and

thinking that the free coffee maker was nice and I would look at it later. I

remember keeping the email in my box. Well a week later UPS was at my door.

Twice, once for gevalia and the other was amazon, I had ordered a book I had

been looking at online. No biggie, But I was glad I had enough money in the

checking account to cover the debit purchases...LOL. ? I have no recollection

of actually ordering them. I don't keep my debit card near the computer at

night any more. It was like Christmas in June!

I just wanted to remind you that alcohol is a depressant and if you're feeling

like getting drunk and hoping it will do more than get you drunk which I am

guessing you meant dead then getting drunk is only going to make you more

suicidal. You need to take care of yourself. Noone else can do this for you.

I hear you reaching out for help but it is so hard for people online to be able

to do anything for you but encourage you. And frankly, it is not fair to us all

to even hint at suicide because we are not in the position to help you. I

encourage you to call a crisis line, reach out to someone who can help you like

a doctor or a therapist. Take care.

I want to second this. When We were at our pre op teaching, They told us

a lady had died of the surgery. She had been drinking at a ball game and her

family didn't know she had surgery and she died from it. I was too terrified

of liver damage to even take a sip for at least a year. I've seen people die

from liver damage and it ain't pretty!

Also mixing Ambien and alcohol can make the problems from the alcohol

worse!

, I have a neice who had the DS before I did, and she said that she

didn't drink anything for over a year, then her and her husband went to SF and

she had a couple and I guess it put her almost on her behind. She says it still

makes a cheap drunk out of her. She makes a joke of it. She says she cannot

drink more than a couple drinks and it has been almost 4 years now. She is

not now, nor was she before the surgery a drinker though. Just liked to go out

once in awhile with her husband. Like the trip to SF. She said she almost

didn't make it back to her table from the bathroom. She had not even finished

the second drink. I don't know what she was drinking, but I am sure it wasn't

like a Zombie type of drink. I understood from Dr. K that our livers just do

not handle liquor well.

affect the body. I know Dr. K told me that my body does not absorb the alcohol

RNY pats Have an additional risk with the stoma and the problem with the

gastritis. As there is no valve. It can increase your chances of marginal

ulcers from the alcohol dumping along with the acids into the intestinal areas.

They have a reason for why they tell you not to do stuff. I know when I had

my RNY configuration I was VERY alcohol intolerant and it made my dumping

episodes very strong. I would get very sleepy after any alcohol, it is similar

now but not as strong.

drink at all, but they kinda leave it up to you after 9 months. It was atleast a

I do understand. It can be a long process trying to get in with a doctor or

therapist. You can see your primary care doctor in the meantime. Don't give

Yeah, I know you understand. I want you to know that I really appreciate you

and everyone else taking the time and caring so much about me. I've seen my PCP

and no help. He's put me on several different ANTI-DEPRESSANTS and no luck. I've

been on several of them. In fact, a lot of them at the same time. I'm trying not

to give up and I'm trying to stay positive and all. I guess I'm just not so good

at it sometimes.

I have given Ambien for years at the hospital. It is a damned good drug

but you have to be able to (as they say on tv) devote at least 8 hrs to

sleep. And they mean 8 hrs. If you try to stay awake of fight it, you have a

tendency to get in an altered mental state. I remember once when A 60YO man took

it after knee surgery, he got up and in a 30 minute period rearranged his

whole room and barricaded his hospital room door. Didn't remember a thing the

next day but complained that his knee was sore...LOL.

I have learned to go straight to sleep after taking it. I get my points

emails and a few weeks ago was reading emails online after taking it waiting

for the med to work. I do remember reading about the gevalia coffeemaker and

thinking that the free coffee maker was nice and I would look at it later. I

remember keeping the email in my box. Well a week later UPS was at my door.

Twice, once for gevalia and the other was amazon, I had ordered a book I had

been looking at online. No biggie, But I was glad I had enough money in the

checking account to cover the debit purchases...LOL. ? I have no recollection

of actually ordering them. I don't keep my debit card near the computer at

night any more. It was like Christmas in June!

Thank you so much for writing me back. Yeah, I've had loads of problems with

this and that as you know. For the most part, these problems all happened after

the RNY. I have had ulcers, however, not related to the alcohol. I don't drink

often or anything (not saying it is EVER right). I don't have dumping after it,

in fact, for the most part I am quite tollerant of it. It also depends on what

it is as well. I know there is a reason why they tell us what to DO and what NOT

TO DO. I guess I just wanted to feel like the 22 year old that I am. I just

wanted to try stuff like any other person my age would do (if they wanted to, of

course). I get incredibly sleepy after I drink as well, I thought that might

have just been me. Anyhow, thanx again.

RNY pats Have an additional risk with the stoma and the problem with the

gastritis. As there is no valve. It can increase your chances of marginal

ulcers from the alcohol dumping along with the acids into the intestinal areas.

They have a reason for why they tell you not to do stuff. I know when I had

my RNY configuration I was VERY alcohol intolerant and it made my dumping

episodes very strong. I would get very sleepy after any alcohol, it is similar

now but not as strong.
