Guest guest
Someone mentioned that at times we get hung-up on the numbers on the scale rather than how wonderful we feel now compared to prior to surgery. Yes, things are MUCH better now than before surgery. But, they are NOT as good as they were before I regained 30#s! I was on a pretty high horse about how terrific the DS was over the RNY. I could eat and looked healthy while I was losing while myRNY acquaintences who had the RNY about a year after my surgery could eat a tiny bit and looked sorta grey-green for quite a while, now are very thin -- okay, too thin in my book -- but I weigh (again) enough to qualify for obesity surgery! I am not so hung-up on the number on the scales so much as the fact that my clothes don't fit, my knees hurt again, I have a double chin again, my cheek bones are gone, my 27 year old daughter (who was so proud of my success) is disappointed in me now (although she's never come out and said it). I feel like a failure. There, I've said it... Poor me. I know what I sound like. Now, what in the heck is the answer? Where do we go from here? I NEED A PLAN. Something like, each week we all agree to try to change one of our bad habits. Example: starting Sunday, we all monitor our water intake. We try to drink the recommended amount per day. What is the recommended amount of water per day for us " oldies " ??? ~~ Shirley
Guest guest
> Hi . Just wanted to say it might be easier to be " content > enough " if I had ever been able to put one leg into a size 4 let alone a size 10! At my lowest weight I wore a baggy 18. Recently bought a size 20 skirt. > ~~Shirley > ***************************** Hi Shirley I understsnd where you are coming from, but you and I both need to understand we all start out different and all end different and all look different. I too wanted more. I wanted to be a 10-12. I also wanted to weigh 157lbs. I wanted to look thin.... I wanted to be thin. I never wanted to weigh 200+ again. When I got to 187, I wasnt happy, Now I would give my eye teeth to weigh 187!!!!!!!!!! It is all relevant. None of us (even -lee) are happy with where we are and where we ended up. I think we want to much, and are never happy. But this is where we can change..... We can work at being satisfied with where we are, and what we are doing, and most of all who we are. We cant all be size 4s, we are who we are, But we can change the things we can and go from there. I will never have big boobs and a small butt, and these legs!!! oh the horrendous legs, they are mine tho- they get me where I need to go. I am trying to improve what I can, and be content with the rest. I hope that you and I both can find a peace in doing this. hugs Sharon in Onyx who did get back to 204 for 2 weeks, but is up to 208 again! hey, it is better than the 218 I have been at for the last year tho-
Guest guest
Shirley, She just picked ten minutes, I think. It sounds doable. Actually, studies show that minutes spent exercising add up at the end of the day so you don't have to worry about doing say, 30 minutes of excercise at once like I used to believe. That is a big relief to me and one of my motivating factors in parking far away! They used to say that fat-burning didn't start until after about 20 minutes of aerobic exercise, I believe. Thank goodness I can ignore that marker now! Marta > Jo, why a 10 minute burst of " intentional " exercise/activity? >
Guest guest
is it really possible for a DS patient to gain 40-50 pounds?? I thought that wouldnt happen to us. Vicki Shirley Groom wrote: How about we report our day to each other and tell each other what we did differently? Vicky =============================== VICKY ! I LOVE YOU! That sounds like the " other group " I was talking about, but without having to start an actual separate group. I am ABSOLUTELY for it!!! I'd still like to have a weekly " special project " -- like water, sugar, etc. Okay with you?? ~~Shirley and Vicki Plough -

Guest guest
Okay Everyone, I am on board as well. I am going to drink 8 or more glasses of water each day, and cut out my sugars as well. I have 3 pounds I need to lose. -- Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. I know it's time to stop whining about my inability to control my eating habits and do something. Maybe I will REALLY do it if you and others join in... we make a challenge out of it. Not a contest where someone is deemed the winner, but where we all win by changing one small habit at a time. This week, WATER INTAKE. Suggestions for following weeks: less/no sugar, less/no caffeine, more/some exercise, more/lots more protein, no eating while watching TV or at the movies, what else? What are specific issues others are battling? Let's MAKE A PLAN!!! Our weekly crusade to re-lose what we've lost. When my head sweats it feels like bugs are crawling around and It nuts me up. That is why I love water aerobics...The water keeps me cool and if for some strange reason I do actually start to get too warm I can just Dip under for a second and continue on. No pool? exercise in the yard with the sprinklers on...don't worry about what the neighbors think because they already know your crazy. What, if anything specific, > does it do for us? Increase metabolism? Or just gets us off our > butt? =========================== Because Dr. K said that the latest studies show, 3 ten min burst of exercise lead to more weightloss than one 30 min. session. That 10 mins. is enough to increase our metabolism at the moment and our metabolism will continue high during the after-glow. 3 ten min. sessions means you have 3 periods of metabolism after-glow burn. I figured we could start with the first 10 min. and work our way up...so little changes are easier to be successful with. It's easier to talk yourself into 10 min. so your more likely to get off your butt because it is accomplish-able. Of course a person can always Adjust the challenges to meet their personal needs. Guest guest
> is it really possible for a DS patient to gain 40-50 pounds?? I thought that wouldnt happen to us. > > Vicki >================================ Yes it is possible...and sugar is usually the culprit. Also you have to look at where a person began. If someone lost 200 pounds then a regain of 50 pounds would only be a 25% regain of weightloss, a 10-20% regain is common. I think Shirley said she lost 13o pounds and regained 30...well that's around a 23% regain...Only slightly over what the stats say is expected. With effort on our parts we can be on the happier end of the stats. Jo
