Guest guest
Hi Janet: I don't know if there is an ethnic link to this disease but I do know that the helplessness of it transcends all lines. I just think what we're finding is that this illness is more common than we originally thought or that it's becoming more recognized and people are learning more about it and, thus, is being diagnosed more often. If the latter is in fact true, that can only mean good things for the future insofar as LBD, and the attention it gets medically and scientifically, is concerned. I know what you mean about always trying to find an " answer " about this mystery of an ailment though. Abby
Guest guest
I hope the doctor was right but I worry if he was because it doesn't look like you're about to be able to get anymore sleep for the time being. Please try to call upon someone to help you so that you can get some rest. Family? Friends? How about some more respite so that you can get this taken care of? I know you've already used respite twice this year (you did say you use them 2x a year right?) but could you look into getting him back in just so you can regroup? I realize it is expensive. I'm hoping you had a better night's sleep tonight. Abby
Guest guest
Jan; You are so right!! It always is something when it comes to this disease isn't it? There really are so many things for us to tend to as well as worry about our sick loved ones. What is perhaps more surprising is that more people don't end up having serious physical repurcussions. We are getting some answers but they are not as immediate as we need them. We have filled in a nh application because my father can no longer get around in his house but there are rather long waiting lists for each place we've applied to. Since his brain surgery, my father has lost all of his English (apparently this is rather common - after a brain operation, patients often revert back to their mother tongues) so he needs to be in a place where he can be understood and understand. This is especially important given the fact that he has for the time being retained some level of cognitive awareness. I keep thinking things have got to turn around which is helping me stay somewhat positive throughout this. I'm hoping things turn for all of us - you especially who seem so overwhelmed and tired at the moment. Abby
Guest guest
Interesting. That's a distinct possibility. That's good news too because tomorrow afternoon we're all heading back to the nh to have a birthday lunch for my husband. His birthday was on Thursday but tomorrow my sister and everyone else can make it so we're celebrating it again with my father. We'll be using the dining room at the nh and my mom's making ve him another lasagna (dad's favorite) and I'm bringing cake. Maybe my dad will be enticed enough to 'see' again. I'll have to let you know. You spoke of candy in your post. My dad used to love sucking on candy. He always carried it around. Today, however, I gave him candy and he didn't even remember he was supposed to suck on it and chewed it all in 10 seconds flat.
