Guest guest
Did anybody's child have side effects from Zoloft? My daughter had been on Zoloft for couple of years. For the past 1 1/2 year she has been constipating (I have to give her Milk od Magnesia daily), excessive sweating, gained weight (about 20 lbs since last December), hard to fall asleep, constantly pinching herself as if she had ants crawling all over her body. Today I checked the web for side effects of Zoloft and all of it was described as side effects. Am I crazy? Is my child the only one? Or is it just a coincidence? All of the above side effects were described as 'infrequent'.

Guest guest
Question Quoted: Any good stories out there about Zoloft? Dave Reply: (Dave, nice to see your yearly report on 's progress. Our two year is coming up in Oct.) Ammon (just turned 6) is doing wonderfully on Zoloft. The first SSRI we started with was Paxil in Dec 2002. After the increases to a larger doses it was obvious he did not do well with it (hyper/defiant). In March 2003 Ammon was switched to Celexa. He did fine, no negatives but his zoniness was still there. Dr G wanted to see if he could find a better match for Ammon to get him out of the fog.. Switched to Zoloft in June 2003 and Ammon REALLY brightened up- that " bright, alert child " started showing his sparkle. Language picked up and he was able to stay on task at school for up to half an hour at a time. Potty skills also improved. We tried an 1/8 and then a 1/4 (total) a pill increase in Sept/Oct 2003 with bad results (hyper/defiant/tantrums/etc) and went back to the previous dose without problems. We just started another increase (1/4 pill more every other day) in May 2004 without problems and so we've upped to the 1/4 more every day with continued improvement. Ammon's social/interaction skills are gaining as well as his language. He is almost always (99%+) in the here and now (not zoney). On a side note... Ammon's eso levels jumped on the last blood test and it was thought by the office to be food related. But every Jan/Feb-May Ammon is " off " . Behavioral problems and red/puffy eyes seems to me to relate to seasonal allergies. Also, gains/improvements seem to slow/halt. Maybe that's why the Zoloft switch/increase that we've done in May & June the past two years have seemed to agree so well- he was already coming out of an allergy funk. Best of " luck " to all, on the Gulf Coast Reality lies beyond the horizon... Wonderwegian
Guest guest
have you tried 1mg of melatonin 1/2 hour before bedtime? It works like a dream. Our son is on Celexa with the same side effect. After a while you can start weaning them off the melatonin as the sleep comes easier. I buy the melatonin at the Vitamin Shoppe. Guest guest
Wow, my son started on Zoloft just two days ago. The first night he was up 'til 4:30 am. Last nite it was 2 am. Should I expect this to continue????? But, I have to say, shortly after giving it to him his " alertness " level was obviously improved. All the best~~ Rose Re: side effects from Zoloft Our son has a very difficult time falling asleep on the Zoloft > Did anybody's child have side effects from Zoloft? Guest guest
Are you giving it AM or PM. If your giving it at night try to switch to AM and maybe that will help.
