Guest guest
Donna Dr G had us try it for " hyperness " ...my son could not sit still and pay attention to story time and is easily distracted, especially at things like circle time or when there is a lot of language going on. Also, at 1:1 speech therapy where there are lots of toys and stuff in the room (and alot of language going on!). Tenex just made him fall asleep, so we quickly stopped it. (Does anyone if Straterra is a help for this distactibility thing?) > Hi Listmates, > > My son, 6, is currently taking Famvir, Lamisil, and Zoloft. Guest guest
Hi Donna, We have been giving our son the generic form of Tenex for about 4 months now. Per Dr. Goldberg, this is a blood pressure medication. We are using it to " calm " him down. He was very hyper before. Since we increased the dosage to 1/4 twice daily, it has helped. (Another person, unrelated to Dr. Goldbeg told us that Tenex is usually prescribed to children that have " motor ticks " , I don't know how true this is). Our son didn't have any side effects. By the way, out son is 5 1/2. Good luck, Argie For those with kids on Tenex Hi Listmates, My son, 6, is currently taking Famvir, Lamisil, and Zoloft. Dr. G wants to try adding Tenex to his " cocktail " to see if it will help with his distractibility. To those who have used Tenex with their children, can you share your experiences? What is the ultimate effect of the drug? Is there a " bad " period before the " good " kicks in? How long should I give it before deciding whether or not it is doing any good? Should I be concerned about any side-effects related to the lowering of blood pressure? Answers to these and any other advice, experiences, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Thanks to those who responded, and I look forward to reading more. Right now we are holding off on starting the Tenex because broke out Saturday with Fifth Disease. THAT was a surprise, let me tell you! Dr. G is prescribing the Tenex because has a lot of difficulty focusing and staying on task, even though he's otherwise quite alert. My side of the family has low blood pressure and I'm pretty sure the Tenex will just put him to sleep, but Dr. G wants to try it. Every time Dr. Goldberg wants to change something in 's regimen, I get very anxious. Tinkering with SSRI doses, going through a die- off...it's so nerve-wracking and emotionally draining. I really appreciate everyone's encouragement and support. Donna
Guest guest
Tyler used to take it but he's not on it anymore. I really didn't see any problems at all while he was on the med. Dr. G started us out on some tiny fraction of a dose. I think it was 1/4 or an 1/8th. When we discussed adding this med to our " cocktail " it was because Ty could be hyper and really unfocused at times and Dr.G. thought that this might bring him down a notch. We were also on a small dose of Wellbutrin, Paxil both of which has worked well for us. The only real negatives we've ever had was an antiviral change from Valtrex to Famvir early on in our treatments and it was NOT enjoyable! Needless to say we went back to Valtrex and stayed with it for a long time. Other than that, the changes we see are noticed over a period of time, nothing is ever really drastically dramatic. leslie -- For those with kids on Tenex Hi Listmates, My son, 6, is currently taking Famvir, Lamisil, and Zoloft.
