Guest guest
Hi Everyone. I am writing out of desperation and confusion. My son, age 6, Asperger's and on the protocol for nearly 2.5 years changed his antifungal to Fluconazole 100mg, compounded, on Feb 10, 2005. The very next day we saw his behaviour " off " . Flopping on the ground, tired, non compliant but generally manageable with some understanding and some heavy discussion and threat of revoked privileges. The following week the behaviour escalated to all out " freak outs " where two teachers had to take him to a " safe room " , where he was running around uncontrollably, barking like a dog, panting, crashing into the walls, being ridiculously silly, almost attention seeking yet, totally unresponsive, even to me. It took 30 minutes from the time I got there to somehow reach him. I kept him out of school for a week. He was fine at home with the exception of some more out of control behaviour at Beavers and Social Skills. Sent him back to school the following week, got a call 1 1/2 hours later, another " freak out " . Kept him home for another week, for fear of obvious social outcasting and judgement from peers and teachers. Dr. G said that the yeast kill off could last up to 21 days. Okay, 21 days was up last Friday. He has been great at hockey, Beavers, home. He went back to school on Monday, had 3 fantastic days. Today, another " freak out " . He was totally unreachable and almost, I hate to say " psychotic " . I have never seen him like this, ever. We have gone through yeast kill offs before, but NEVER anything like this. Each episode, I have noticed his ears were very red, his eyes glazed. His diet has been so tight that I doubt it could be an allergy. His ears would go back to normal once he came back to himself. My questions are simply: Has anyone ever seen these types of behaviours during a yeast kill off? Where the child was at times absolutely fine and then a drastic decline and then fine again. Has anyone experienced a yeast kill off in excess of 21 days. I am about at my wits end and can't keep him out of school any longer. He has already missed the better part of 3 weeks and the teachers, principal etc are starting to think that I am out of my mind along with my child. I am afraid they may be ready to do something drastic. It is important to understand that this is a boy with very few behavioural issues. His biggest being non compliance at times when he gets caught up in something that he is interested in. He is not on an SSRI. The antiviral we changed in Dec with spectacular results. Any input anyone can give me would help tremendously. I just don't know what to do. Many thanks in advance, Lori
